I have had 3 AKs and know a little about them. One I built from a Romy parts kit, like new for $100.00 at Aim Surplus. I had an Elk River Rec. Installed on my de milled kit. Then I put in the barrel, and all of the 922r parts. It was a lot of fun, but alas I sold it. The other was a Century built AK 74. I sold it during the great panic when O got elected. The only thing I had to do to it was put a Tapco G2 trigger in it. I shot it some 300-500 rounds, never failed. It got sold. What I have now is an FEG SA 85M that came with the nice blond thumb hole stock. I threaded the barrel, put in all required 922r parts, along with a USA made K-Var Plum stock set, a G2 trigger assy. & a Made in USA made AK 74 type flash hider. I have been looking at milled receiver rifles, from Century up to Arsenal. My question is, is the SA85m a better gun? ( Never misfired), and I kept all of the old parts. Opinions please.

Thanks,
Mark

Yes.

The SA-85 is one of the finest AK's ever made. There are some companies making/building really nice rifles that you mentioned, but I don't see any superiority over the SA-85, some features maybe that some guys find desirable (bayo lug, sidemount etc.) but overall they are easily the equal of anything produced today.

Thanks to all who answered. I am just going to keep my SA85, and not worry about a milled one. I don't need a bayonet on it.

Thank You

If I were you, I would get the correct gas block and FSB as well. This way if you ever want to de-ban it you have the parts.  Now is the time to get correct Hungarian parts.

Kind of an odd statement. Lots of people here actually know a ton about AKs.

I agree with this statement. I'd also dig for the correct wood furniture for that rifle. That Hungarian blond wood was just sexy as all get out. Properly bedanned, that rifle will be too awesome to ever let go.
