What would someone expect to pay for a preban Styer import Maadi?  One is being advertised locally and is listed as "Collector grade, low serial number".  Asking price seems high.  Just curious what is may really be worth.  GB has one that's been listed for quite a while so I don't think it's a good comparison.

They are pretty rare and usually go for $1000+. Possibly even as much as $1300 or $1400.

Some Steyr imported Maadi's were used in the filming of Red Dawn. Here is a list of the serial numbers of the guns used in the movie. Check the serial number of the one for sale against this list, you never know.

Semi-Auto "Red Dawn" Maadi AKMs, Total of 21 rifles

The first number is the LMO Inventory number from the 1998 Appraisal at SGR Inc. Maadi is the manufacturer, all were AKM semi autos, full stock version. Outside surface was roughed up, blank restrictor placed under the flash hider, not a threaded bore. These are all “Pre 1994 Assault Rifles” and are grandfathered to buy and sell wherever legal. All were in 7.62x39mm. All were sold with one painted (Factory original) 30 round magazine.

I saw that one and had the same thought... Too high.  I'd guess it would be fair around $1300ish

$1000 seems right but there are alot better Ak's for that amount of money

I've had several Maadi's and the Steyr pre-ban models are quite a bit higher in quality than the later guns.

I would certainly pay $1000 for a clean one. I have heard talk of but never seen one sold for less that $1400

I believe it was a grand, one of mine came w/a receipt/documents from 82 or 83 and it was $980ish I believe, I'll try to dig it out w/the paperwork and post a pic if I can find it.  I'd hate to think they depreciated over time.

The one I'm looking at has a copy of the original receipt.  It was $799 new and ammo was .21 cents per round.  Seems in todays dollars, everything is much cheaper now.

Over the last year or so, I've seen unfired one's on GB sell for up to $1600-1800, while used one's sold for $1400-1500.
