Been thinking about adding a AK-74 to my collection.
Looking for a fixed stock with as decent of a trigger as i can find.

what should I be looking at and what price range should I expect?

Or tantal, they're nice as well.

If you can find an SLR-105, it's probably your best bet, but there are plenty of nice kit builders out there doing Bulgarian '74s.

Welcome to the Dark Side, brother!!  First a Glock and now this... am I being a bad influence on you??

Anyway... expect to pay anywhere from $300-700, depending on the level of quality and such you're after.

At the low end would be a Romanian WASR-2 or SAR-2. www.aimsurplus.com had the WASR-2s on sale for $289 for the longest time, but appears to be sold out now. The Romys are a little rough, but generally serviceable if you're just looking for an inexpensive shooter.

Tantals are interesting, but their use of some proprietary parts (primarily in the front end) keeps me from getting one. Also, the vast majority of them are built as folders. Although that's rectified easily enough, it's one more thing you'd have to do to make the gun suit you.

The Bulgarian guns - to include both the Arsenal SLR-105 factory guns and the good-quality kit builds - will occupy the top end of the spectrum. I suggest holding out for a factory gun, unless the pedigree of a given kit build can be verified.

Check gunbroker, the EE here, and the Marketplace area on www.akforum.net for deals to pop up.

www.ohiorapidfire.com still has the best deals on mags, with their 12-packs of either new or used Bulgarians.

Email me if you have specific questions and I'd be happy to answer them as best I can.

+1, I just picked mine up today. New Bulgarian '74 kit on an Armory USA receiver, professionally built. It's a superior weapon.

I got mine from Precision Armaments, Inc. in Slatington, Pa. The builder, Charlie, is great to work with. The rifle is as good as I could have expected.
