At the range a few weeks ago, a friend of mine was shooting my Lancaster AK74 and the trigger assembly felt apart. A pin came out and the trigger turned at like a 45 degree angle. We finally got it back together and it shot okay, but I want to make sure we put it back together correctly.
For the L shaped retaining spring, we have the loop with more coils wrapped around the selector pin, and then the wire goes over the trigger pin, then under the hammer pin, and then the little loop is visible in the mag well when you flip the gun over. For the hammer spring, one of the hooks (the one at the bottom of the picture of my gun) is coming loose. It's difficult to get a pair of pliers in there and bend it back. What do you think caused this? I don't understand what you mean by "coming loose". Are the wires unwinding? Is the bend less than 90 degrees? Something else? What do you think caused this? In your picture it appears the "L" hook is not properly hooked INTO the groove on the hammer pin. It looks like the wire is actually not in the groove of the hammer pin but to far toward the center of the receiver and "hooked" on the hammer spring.
Check to be sure the wire actually passes close enough to the receiver wall to seat into the groove or the hammer pin may work it's way out. If the end of the hammer spring is not staying hooked on the trigger, put a piece or wire or string around the spring and use that to lift the spring "leg" up until you can get to it easily with pliers to bend the end. |
| I don't like using the sheppard's hook. The retainer plate sold by RedStarArms is much simpler and easier to install and keeps everthing in their proper place. If the pin came out while shooting then most likely the sheppard hook was not properly installed. I changed a trigger part using the plate and it took a couple of minutes at the most. I have never heard of a failure with these plates and they are cheap too. |
| I had that problem with a AMD-65 I rebuilt and I just replaced the spring with a DPMS single version instead of the Doulble coiled version and installed one of their Plates retainers and havent had a problem in 500 rounds since the change..... The single wire version is alittle easier to install also and never unless you take a pliers to it wont loose the 90 degree bend to the trigger horns..... |
