I see this term frequently. Will someone explain exactly what headspace is and how it relates to a build?

Basically it is the size of the chamber (the part of the barrel that hold the round of ammunition that is about to be fired). If it is too big the cartridge can break open upon firing, releasing extremely high pressure gases. Bad things happen.

It's the distance from the bolt face to the base of the cartridge when chambered.
