I know the Russian, Chinese and Bulgarian AK's have the best finish and look good.  How about functionality. Are the cheaper AK's any more problematic over the more expensive ones?
Is it worth the extra money to buy a $700 AK over the $300 AK just for quality of finish? They all go bang when the trigger is pulled and are dependable , right? I know their is milled and stamped!
From what I've seen and read, they are all  reliable.
Opinions please!

Yes, they all go bang when you pull the trigger. The price difference reflects the fit/finish, how rare the specific parts are, quality..those kinds of things. Sure you can get a $300 wasr and it will fire a round every time you ask it too, but there are TONS of them out right now, finish isnt great, stockset might not match or the sights might be canted. But if you buy, say a Aresenal SA M7, finish will be of much higher quality, workmanship and quality of the parts are just better.

Like everything else, you get what you pay for.

if your willing to get a new fcg then they will all go bang
ive seen couple of rommys in the last few months that didnt do so hot (nothang a new trigger didnt fix tho)
seem that the worst fcg i know of centry (whats in rommys) has gotten worse if thats even possible
to most people the rommy is all you need its a good basic ak
if you want  some kool factor and somethang that will be worth alot more in 2 years go with a polish folder you can prolly have 1 built for around 550
thats just a guess give josh (jnewt) an email

Get what you like, take a good look at all of your alternatives and decide what you feel comfortable with. Years ago I was at a hundred yard outdoor range test firing an AR I had just built from a truly flogged South American return M16 kit, and right beside me was a pair of guys with two high dollar Remington PSS bolt guns all tricked out with massive high dollar scopes custom stocks triggers and all of that high speed "sniper" stuff. After I fired about ten rounds and they had fired about five each it was time to go down range and check targets. At 100 yds with a raggedy sub $400 surplus parts built rifle using iron sites I had groups a quarter of the size of the yahoos with mega dollar sniper rifles.

You may get what you pay for, but its how you use it that counts. I have shot lot's of AK's and own some nice examples, but to tell the truth I get more enjoyment out of my beaters than the expensive guns. I like the beaters more because of my shooting style than anything else. I am a casual shooter, I would just as soon shoot at a carboard box or old plastic coke bottles all afternoon as I would shoot targets for accuracy. I also just don't give a rats ass about what anybody else thinks about my stuff. I just like stuff that puts a smile on my face and the Romys do that was well as my preban Hungarian safe queens. Plus with the Romys you are not nearly as likely to feel guilty when you start to customize it, it almost makes me sick to hear people talk about how they don't want to "molest thier AK" by changeing this or that.
