I got in a little late from work, and decided that there was still enough light to see what my new Arsenal SLR-101 is capable of. I put it on layaway a few weeks back, and got it out Wednesday. I've had a WASR now for about three years and though she's treated me well, she just isn't my ideal AK. I've always wanted a milled AK, and $631 didn't sound bad to me at all.

So, only one box of Wolf FMJ. Yeah, I'm a poor bastard for a week or two. I walked out back and placed a blue Folgers coffee can a shade over 70 yards. Nothing too fancy, just placed it on the ground and walked back to the house. Placed a pillow on our patio railing, popped in a 5rnd mag and took aim. All five shots, didn't see the can move. Just wads of dirt and grass flying. I thought, damn, did I hit it? The next magazine, I saw the can twitch once in agony. I was starting to think this Arsenal wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Two more loads and more of the same. I looked her over, shrugged, and laid her down. I approached the can and what did I see? Swiss cheese. 38 holes. All twenty rounds hit and passed through. Two of them zinged over the mouth of the can and made only one hole.

I guess my WASR just won't get much play for a while.

Good deal. That is encouraging. I have a TANTAL kit waiting to be built. I am not too hip on AK nomenclatures, so, forgive my if I get this wrong. Your SLR 101 is chambered for 5.45X39 right?
I am anxiously awaiting a part to begin assembly of my TANTAL kit. I hope that it performs at least as well as your rifle. it sounds like you have a good shooter

I had the same situation when i shoot cans for a firs time-few shots at can from a 20 yards- the can didn't move, when i went close, i saw bunch of small holes at the can's front side, the back side was just riped from the fast, light and unstable 5.45 rounds-without moving the can even at centimetre.

It is chambered in 7.62. My next AK will be in 5.45 though. Mainly due to the abundance of actual mil-surplus ammo.
