Here's a dumb question , should i have the front and rear trunnions in before rivetting the cener support? I bent the receiver , guess i went one to many times, i think i may be able to save it.Any thoughts or suggestions besides , next time don't pump so may times? Only thing in my defense was i checked after about 4 pumps on the press and the rivett was still too long.

| pictures! First the lower rails, but the trunnions can be done last...if it's just a spacing issue you can put them in temporarily with small nuts and bolts. It's best to just make sure the center support is the right length and put it in. How "overbent" is the receiver? |
| I took pictures this morning but i dont think they show the problem.I drilled out the center support and will put the new one in.It doesnt seem to be bent too bad.I used the ak builder rivet, and the rivet jig.My question i guess is the rivet too long and need to be trimmed? |

Man you screwed that one up... You can remover the center support and see if you can bend it back into shape the reinstall the support.... you should only be putting pressure on the center support rivet and not the receiver body... How in the hell did you do this.....

| A high school buddy and fellow builder did this to one of his receivers (similar) and the way I fixed it is I reinstalled it into my Ak-Builder Jig and re pressed it again but you have to remove the center support and tap it in to the top die carefully since the rails are installed... Its not impossible just takes some time but its cheeper to replace and loose the center support than the receiver.... |

Ratfink57 thanks for getting the picture posted for me.This was the second center support i put in.I will try to get this one straight, but i am in the process of doing another one.I would just like to know what i am doing wrong.I did screw it up, this will be my learning experience.I am using the ak builder rivett tool, i used the pin with the indent to press the rivett, but i think that one is just to line it up correct? Should i then use the solid one.tThe rivett head was resting on the base of the tool.

| Well the good news is i did get it bent back ok, the magazine fits and the trunnion lines up perfect .The only problem is the center support hole is egged out, so i can weld it and redrill but i am more inclined to start over and use this as a learning experience.I already have a new flat bent anyway, just waiting on the rivetts that should be here tomorrow.I know i should be putting pressure on the rivett but the reciver was bending right away so i am doing something wrong,. |
| I'd start over. I ruined a few flats myself and learned. Now I use a hammer on the center rivet to set it then I use a a small rivet backing plate and hammer and start shaping the center rivet. I get it close and stop. AKbuilder centere supports tend to hold up better. You don't need big head. Get it decent and you can shape it with a dremel. |
| i use a hard bolt cut to size for the support and use a center support jig for riviing, use a drill press for the hole in the cut bolt. if you need a photo i have one. I just recently bought some steel spacers from mc master carr they come in 1 1/4" length for $2 each. they come center drilled and you can buy a smaller size and drill up to fit the rivit. i belive they sell the rivits also. |
