A fun video on what is too often a heated topic:

What Distance Will Point Shooting Fail You?

Hats off to these guys for going out and actually trying this out!!

This scene from They Live is a classic parable.  The fight not to see is intense, but you can't forget it when you actually see the reality:

I suspect Paul has minimal training in point shooting, but he still does very well.  It should be noted that John has a red dot sight on his pistol so perhaps he isn't even using his irons at all.

Point shooting is quickly learned and well retained.  COL Applegate indicated an accuracy of 6 to 8 inches at 7 to 10 yards, with silhouette accuracy at 50ft (16 yards).  In my experience COL Applegate was exactly correct.  Using proper technique you should be able to hit a head sized target at 7 yards, but occasionally you may miss.

We did a somewhat similar Man-vs-Man draw in John Murphy's class.  It was at bad breath distances.  I ran a concealed M&P9 (with manual safety) strong side under a tshirt... and could outdraw everybody in class.  That included experienced shooters carrying Glocks with RDS using kydex appendix holsters.  One inexperienced shooter using a strong side holster couldn't even get his gun out of the holster before I got a good shot off.
