Whew. Just finished 4 days pit ref/ump/boss duty at the Southern States Classic Rifle Matches hosted by Richard's Associates at River Bend Gun Club in Dawsonville, GA. It was well-attended considering the present circumstances, with folks from Al, Il, Pa, Ky, NC, Fla, Ga, USAMU, Guard, and elsewhere coming to shoot highpower. The re-scheduled September time slot weather was much hotter than the usual April temps, and we got rained on some Saturday - but we finished. I am waiting on the PDF of scores from Larry, and will update this post soon, but there were some very high scores shot, as well as some unusual ones.

Tournament format was : 4-man 50-shot NM team/warm-up match Thursday, 800 agg Friday and Saturday, with an EIC/Rifleman's match (no sighters, no alibis) to finish on Sunday.

Lots of these in rapids:

Nice 600 yard service rifle from the EIC match:

Edit: Team (warm-up) match scores (Thanks to the uploader Jim K.)

Just got scores from the match director. You could say 2020 is the "Year of the Service Rifle", with the top 2 scores both shot with the service rifle.
The 3-day agg is 210 record shots (2100-210x possible).

Here are the aggregate scores:

The 2020 SSC Grand Aggregate Champion, and Service Rifle champion, and High Woman (Emma Sansom Trophy), is Amanda Elsenboss, with a 2091-107x, followed very closely by John Coggshall with a 2091-103x.
3rd place overall and High Match Rifle champion is Brandon Green with a 2088-131x, followed by Chris Blankenship, High Civilian 2083-101x. Brandon also won a Bragg Trophy for any 100-10x string.
High Civilian Service Rifle (Lee Trophy) is Konrad Powers 2078-86x (WHOOPS sorry for the typo)
High Senior champion (Pendleton/Manis Trophy) is Allen Castle with 2058-98x
High Junior (Smith Trophy) is Hunter Blankenship with 1495-11x (13-years old. Happy Birthday Hunter)

The 3-day Rapid fire Aggregate (Forrest Trophy), and the 3-day Slow Fire Aggregate (Hood Trophy) was won by John Coggshall with 795-27x and 799-52x, resp.

The Sunday Rifleman's match (Benning Trophy) winner is Brandon Green, with 499-35x, followed closely by Amanda 499-28x, and David Bahten 499-27x

In the EIC match, we had 11 non-distinguished, with Jacob Blackburn of the USAMU shooting the high score with 490-21x. First leather Meredith Grant 478-13x.

I will edit later if I made any errors.

Where can I find the scores?

ETA: Never mind.  Found them here.

Y'alls need more intermediate-level shooters.  One leg with a cut of 490-21X is brutal.

I just finished FTP'ing the html and scores you found.

Yes, we would like more intermediate shooters, especially juniors. This is the first year we have had a junior shooter to give the awards to in several years. So bring some with you in 2021, and recommend the match to leg hunters you know. Highpower shooting attendance is definitely down in GA, and new shooter recruitment and participation is down in general nationally. It is what it is.

I do what I can to interest arfcommers and others in HP, but they would rather blast an MOA at 100 yards (as if it means squat), or ding steel - when they aren't yelling at mom to bring the meatloaf. Or, they prefer F-class or PRS. Dunno.

Circumstances being what they are in 2020, match rescheduling, and hot weather with threat of rain all contributed to numbers this year. Our sport is declining, IMO.

The hard-holders are here because of the high level of competition, and the highest cash awards in the country. Not to mention the hospitality of the hosts and volunteers, the camaraderie, and a well-run and organized match.

It was interesting to see a 180-15x at 300 rapid.

Shoot just a LITTLE faster. You know who you are.

That was my shooting buddy, He had a jam in the first string and grabbed his extra 8 rounder and closed the bolt as the target went down.

Ejected the round and the now 7 round mag which he... used to shoot a 90-9 in the next string.

Shooting faster wasn't the issue. Remembering to prime every round (first string) and remembering to top off my 8 round mag (second string), proved to be more important than shooting fast in this case.

Ah, ok. Believe me, I've made some head-scratchers myself. Like shooting 11 rounds and getting zip for the whole string - ouch.

Ha ha.  I know you guys! Seems like this isn’t the first time someone has had issues at 300......did he shoot 9 or did he shoot 11?

There was a guy at Interservice that had to grab his "Oh shit" mag in one of the rapid stages and shot 12 rounds.  That sucks.
