| I've been learning marksmanship on my 10-22 fitted w/ tech-sights and GI web loop sling. Eventually I am going to want to apply what I've learned to my carbine length AR. I understand that slinging up tight w/ the AR will move POI and since the sling tension is not perfectly repeatable the sling attachment point at the gas block is probably off limits. So what I'm looking for is another rig up. Free float tube/ sling swivel etc. I would love to hear suggestions. Also... The metal on metal contact at the butt stock end of the sling is very loud. If anyone has any creative ideas on how to retain the QD capability here but effectively silence it I would like to hear them. I was thinking some kind of paracord loop might work well but thought I might check the hive for better ideas. |

The rear is of no concern, as the sling will be looped around your bicep. The front sling swivel is also plenty sufficient.
You can do fine with the stock rifle and Wolf ammo. Appleseed is designed around a 4 MOA standard. |

| Thanks for the reply. I guess maybe I'll see if its broke before I fix it. Generally a good policy. I've heard stories of sling tension moving POI 4 MOA from the benched POI. I've also heard that the .mil no longer teaches use of the sling for this reason. The rear sling attachment question was when the sling is being used to carry the weapon not when it is being used as a shooting sling. |
I put free float tube on some of my AR15's but I have the standard set up on one carbine and haven't seen any issues with it. I'm not a match/target shooter so I don't have a sling so tight that my support hand goes numb from lack of blood flow. My carbine (with sling swivel on the front sight base and a hasty sling in the prone position with Russian surplus ammo will give me a 5 shot group at 300 yds. that is about 4 inches wide by 6 inches tall. I blame the oval group on the SUIT sight which make it kind of hard to put the tip of the inverted pointer on the same spot on the target every time. 
The idea of Appleseed is not High Power shooting (though what you learn will help you a lot if you decide to do some High Power shooting in the future). The idea of Appleseed is to teach you about the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship and to wake you up to the history/heritage of the events surrounding the birth of our country. How the common folks stood up for each other and worked/fought together to protect each other from harm. You'll learn a lot and have a lot of fun. |
