Rochester Personal Defense has a few exciting classes coming up in the Rochester area. Pistol Permit Pre-licensing Safety Class If you are going through the process to obtain a permit in New York State or a Non Resident type permit for another state, this is the class for you! Safety is the main goal of the lecture, but you will also learn about the differing laws and regulations regarding your permit, the mindset and attitude that each and every firearms owner should have, safe use and storage of your firearm, and more. At the completion of the class, you will be issued a certificate and a letter of completion to submit to the licensing office. The class lasts 4-5 hours and costs $55.00 per participant. August 16th, 9:30am - 3:30pm (Sat.) Gander Mountain, Henrietta, NY Concealed Carry of Defensive Firearms Seminar Dave Jenkins, the founder of Rochester Personal Defense will be exploring some of the myths and other details surrounding the whole concept of concealed carry or CCW. Some of the topics that will be covered include: * Why concealed carry is allowed and important. * Where you can or cannot carry. * When you should tell an officer if you are carrying. * What gun would be best to carry. * Advantages and disadvantages to differing methods of carry. * What you should do when you think you are in a situation. * What your legal rights and responsibilities are when you are carrying. …And more… August 18th, 6:30 to 9 or so.... THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Basic Self Defense Personal Safety Class In this class, you will learn more about body language, non verbal communication, and pre-attack indicators. We will also talk about how the predators among us use what is called "Target Selection" in picking a victim, and how to work on minimizing it. Physiological and psychological reactions to an attack will be discussed too. Participants will also learn some basic skills to counteract an aggressor's actions. Techniques include: * Building a "Winning Mindset" (some call it a 'Survivor's Mindset') * Movement and positioning in varying situations * Learning to counter the most basic and common attacks (wrist grabs, hair pulls, punches, etc) * Situational scenarios Cost: $60 for Adults, $45 for Juniors (under 18) September 7th, 2008 11:00am - 4:00pm (Sunday) Gander Mountain, Henrietta, NY Defensive Firearms Shooting Skills 201 You asked for it and here it is!!! The followup to the DPS 101 class: In Defensive Pistol Skills 201, you will build on the skills and theories from DPS 101 and then move on to more fluid, reactive, and reflexive instruction. Carrying a firearm in public is difficult enough. This class will show you how you can be discreet but ready to defend yourself. The classroom theory portion will cover: * Review of Article 35 * Target threat assessment * Multiple aggressor engagement * Lethal force to non lethal force transitions * Drawing from concealment clothing * Covert/discreet presentation of the firearm * Tactical movement and gun handling skills * One handed shooting/reloading/malfunction clearing * Point blank/defensive engagement (3' or less) * PIE'ing and use of cover On the range, you will review reloads, malfunction clearing and movement, and then you will move on to: * Presenting from concealment * Presenting/engaging at point blank range (close quarters draw) * PIE'ing, cornering, and 'rolling out' from cover * Movement away or to cover * One handed shooting/reloading/malfunction clearing * Multiple target engagement NOTE: you must attend DPS 101 before taking this class. If you have comparable training experience, call us before signing up to see if you can qualify. Equipment needed: Eye and ear protection. A working and reliable firearm. Minimum 300 rounds of ammunition. 3 magazines or speedloaders (minimum) with carry pouches. A quality 'strong side' holster and a sturdy belt. Comfortable clothing for the weather is a must.
