cheap. Apparently some places you can get it for free. I would like to get some for my trauma bag. While I have never encountered an OD, I have given CPR and administered basic FA in a few horrific accidents. My hope is to never use it. What direction can some of you EMS people recommend? THANKS @medicmandan, I think I got this right. |

| Thing is if they OD on xylazine/tranq it doesn't seem to work. |

| Maybe it’s someone who accidentally was dosed with fentanyl there, my man. Real tough talk |

She figured that liver damage would hit her long before she'd need narcan. She's about recovered from the shoulder replacement now, and we still have that dose of narcan. |

Yup. Naloxone ain’t chicken soup. It definitely has its place in the treatment of opioid overdose or diagnostically for unconsciousness of unknown etiology but there needs to be either a viable index of suspicion or clinical signs before we just start squirting repeated doses in noses. |

| Depends on state, UT here, but you can very often find MFG websites or programs that will send you a free 2-pack of 4mg nasal sprays. I received a Narcan brand 2-pack free, and like was mentioned above, if you live in UT, you can go to any public library and they give you a vial and syringe no questions asked, 1 per person, per day. |

ETA: https://www.kktv.com/2022/12/15/graphic-police-help-save-officer-fentanyl-overdose-during-traffic-stop/ These are generally just anxiety attacks and/or a form a conversion disorder. The media reports you hear of law enforcement OD on fentanyl generally describe symptoms that are opposite of opioid overdoses. Also, I've yet to here of any these cases being confirmed with a UDS or serum studies. |

We spend a lot of time taking care of people who dgaf about their own lives and it gets old. Yes it's valuable to have for the 3yo who gets into grandma's "stickers" (fentanyl patches), but when you get sprayed with HIV+ blood as the druggie rips out his ivs and starts swinging on everyone he sees after being narcan'ed for the 3rd time in 2 days you can understand the frustration that leads some to begin to question the easy access we provide. Not saying it's right, but I get how they get there and dismissing it as trolling is perhaps valid, but also perhaps not fully appreciating reality. |

In some states it’s free. In UT you can walk into any public library and get a narcan kit. 1 per day which includes a vial and syringes. They used to do the 4mg nasal sprays but it was to expensive. Most insurance will also cover narcan nasal spray for free so check at the pharmacy since most pharmacists can dispense it at their discretion without a prescription. Rmsearch “Utah free naloxone” in google and reach out to the site. Even if in another state the program might just send it to you |

In what other situations might you find a non-druggie w/ which Narcan would work? Opiate attempted suicide? |

|
We get it free from county health department. I carry it in my daily carry (backpack) along with IFAK. For me, it's not really about addicts ODing so much as innocent people being exposed. Just like a few other things, I carry it around with the hope I never need to use it. |

They hand it out for free here in PA Last handout was May at public park that I know of they advertise it on the radio stations. I don't borher with the fred handouts for the simple reason we don't know anyone that uses drugs. I will say that scranton/dunmore get a bad batch of fent laced drugs about once a month that you can hear on the scanner the cops, tossing OD victims into the backs of patrol cars to the ER due to running out of ambulances. If it' that bad in tiny dem run little shithole scranton I can only guess it's exponetionally worse in bigger dem run cities. |

A junkie that's dead can't OD again. But given other lives are at risk, unethical to limit the use of Narcan, despite the savings to the taxpayer. |

I don't see any problem with keeping naloxone around to save a loved one, someone you care about, a neighbor's kid, etc. I can understand the desire to be a good citizen and help people, it kind of goes along with the whole "be a helper" mentality. There are risks though with squirting a person you don't know, having to deal with a pissed off person being one of them. Calculate the risk. |

I know this is an older thread. I went into the fire station and asked for some and was handed a box of two sprays of it. I was told by a station chief in his office duty time to go to *any* fire station and ask. They will hand you a couple. Now state to state this may vary. But in Washington state we’re full up with druggies in King and Snohomish county. |
