I've been a police officer for 20 years, and have been teaching shooting, tactics and use of force to cops and citizens for nearly as long. I ran one joint-venture called Performance on Demand Shooting for seven years, and from 2017-2021 I worked for Vortex Optics where I created and then ran the Vortex Edge shooting school until I left and started my current company, Critical Impact Group. Besides training, I do expert witness analysis and testimony on legal cases that involve firearms, ballistic reconstruction and use of force / self-defense claims. Anyways, the course is designed specifically for armed citizens to help them better understand the legal aspects of using deadly force in a self-defense situation. I've had a number of cops take it too who have said they found it more informative than their formal LE training on the topic, but it is really designed for armed citizens. I put the course together because after having so many cops and citizens come through open enrollment classes together, I saw that while armed citizens frequently outshoot the cops, the LEOs were still far outperforming citizens in scenario based trainings because they understood use of force elements better. Cops do that every single day, and citizens just don't get those opportunities. So I created this course to try to make this type of information more accessible and affordable for the average gun owner. It should take about 8 hours to complete - there's a lot of info but it's broken down into 6 chapters, 24 different lessons. Most videos are about 20 minutes long, the longest is about 40. There are quizzes and when you complete the course, you will receive a certificate. Some of the topics: -Deadly Force Fundamentals (DF 101 - when can you shoot someone, what makes a threat imminent, etc) -Stopping the threat (terminal ballistics, human physiology & shot placement) -Deadly Weapons & Proportionality -Disparities of Force -Pre-Attack Indicators & De-escalation -Castle Doctrine, Duty to Retreat & Stand Your Ground Laws -Mistake of Fact Shootings -Criminal Code Basics, Statutes & Legal Theory -Criminal Defense Overview w/ practicing attorney -and some other topics.... A big emphasis on the course is the importance of clear articulation of your observations, suspect actions, your conclusions and actions so they meet legal standards. My goal is you learn this stuff inside and out so you can make better, faster decisions in the moment to keep you safe - and then be able to articulate your actions at such a high level, no prosecutor is going to dream of putting you in front of jury. There are a lot of real world shooting videos, analysis and visuals. I think you'll find it very interesting and useful. Hi Adrian This is online only, right? No in person/range portion? To the rest of ARFCOM, I've taken 2 classes (one was an ARFCOM meetup) and a private lesson with this guy. He's pretty active with classes for civvies and LEO around the state. Solid instructor. |
