CNM matches here in Dawson County GA Th-Sun, hosted by my club (Richards Associates) at my range (River Bend). I am pit boss, and my longtime friend (and ace Garand/14 'smith) Ronnie Morris of TN calls the line. We do our best to run a smooth match, and be generous hosts with big prize awards.
Today was a wicked windy spring day, but you know what? The hard holders shot a good score anyway. Good to see a few of my friends Brandon, Amada, Sammy and some new faces that you will learn their names soon, if I am a betting man, and some of the old gang from all over, including Fla, Mo, Al, GA, and more. Today was the warm-up 4-man team match, 50 NMC with sighters and alibis. I didn't take notes when it was over (there was cold beer, brats, and burgers distracting me), but there were quite a few scores in the high 490s, with some offhands shot clean. WOW The tournament proper starts tomorrow with the first of 2 80 shot NMC matches Fri and Sat (followed by BBQ) and a EIC/Rifleman's (no alibis, no sighters) to finish up Sunday. I'll shoot a few pics and add them when I can.

EIC & Rifleman's match Sunday rained out.
Overall winner of match (surprise surprise) : Brandon Green (match rifle) High Service Rifle, high woman: Amanda Elsenboss Complete scores when I get 'em from Cathy the statistician. Also waiting on pics. In other news, the Dicks will be changing the name of the match to "Southern States Classic". In today's society full of bitter leftists, we don't need anyone involved being "Arocked" out of a job just because they were associated with something with the word Confederate in the title, even though that was tongue-in-cheek dig at the NRA in response to their raising fees and cutting awards at their national match... not a white nationalist whatever. Also we don't want anyone to not attend the match just because of the name. It's a great match, well run, and the highest-paying in the country.

I'd say typical April/spring weather, partly cloudy, cool in morning, not too hot by afternoon, with a gusty wind making it tricky. Very comfortable to me, being in the pits for all of it. In other years we've had it later in the year and it was hotter. We've made some schedule changes here and there thru the years to avoid conflicting with other large matches.
The match format is Th: 50 shot 4 person team warm-up (with sighters and alibis), F & Sat: 80 shot national match (with sighters and alibis), Sun: EIC and Rifleman's match run concurrently (no sighters, CMP rules for EIC, no shooter alibis for Rifleman's match). All competitors get a nice t-shirt, and the Dicks provide a cook-out in the pits following Th and Friday' match, and catered BBQ on Saturday for the awards ceremony. You can camp on the range, bring an RV, or stay in one of many local lodging choices. |
