I teamed up with Frank from Snipers Hide last week at an ELR shoot put on by Ritter & Stark. I brought a bunch of 338 Ultras and they brought a bunch of their SX1 338 Lapua rifle. The goal was 4k but the ammo simply wasn't up to the task. We were able to connect constantly at 2600 but still had some vertical spread issues. Frank and I were both able to hit 4 out of 5 at 2600. Here is the target with 8 hits on it
 I was all around the target at 4k thats to great spotting by Frank. One of my shits fell about 6" short kicking up dirt hard enough to activate the target flasher making us think I hit till we went down to check the target. I think with a faster twist and handholds 4k is doable with the 338 Lapua. |

From the OP it appears you guys were shooting both 338rums and LM's? if so on the rums, recutting the chamber to 338 edge(300 rum necked up to 338) would get you more powder/speed then the 338LM .. Nice shooting... A very simple mod... Case length of the .338 RUM is 2.760” (70.1mm), being .090” (2.3mm) shorter than the 7mm, .300 and .375 Ultra Magnums which have a case length of 2.850” (72.4mm). This allowed Remington to keep within their preferred cartridge overall length of 3.600” (91.4mm), the M700 action having a magazine length of 3.660” (93mm). |
