This has been sitting around for a while and I started thinking, what upgrades can I do that can turn this into a decent DMR type. I’m certainly not an expert in that area, so asking the experts….what are some easy upgrades I can do to this beast to make it maybe lighter and more of a DMR (without changing out the barrel). The handrail and stock are first in mind. Optics are taken care of. Attached File |

first off forget lighter, it's not going to happen build the rifle to meet your needs and suck up the weight, a good drop in 2.5 to 3.5 trigger a optic to 3X18 to 5X25, I prefer the Magpul ACS with an MOE-K2+ Grip, then a 6x9 swivel bipod of some sorts, and with loaded mags you will be up to 10-12 lbs. there's your DMR . then shoot some good ammo 168 or 175 and if you group 1.5 @ 100 yds you have a good DMR.

DMR = "designated marksmans rifle" So built to be accurate. Reality check? That barrel is likely not a shooter. You can find that out with a box of Federal GMM 175s pretty quick. If its not shooting an inch or less, youre pissing money away. You can buy a new quality barrel for 300-400 and you will be alot happier. Now lets say the barrel is a shooter? New trigger, SSA-E or something equal. New stock, plenty of options out there. Decent scope and mount, pick your magnification. And if the gun doesnt have an adjustable gas block? Buy one from Superlative. Only thing that might be an issue past that is the bolt carrier if it has a huge firing pin hole. |

I was plinking steel at about 300 yards once I got the scope dialed in. Trigger sucks, so I agree it needs to go. It’s just a heavy bitch, but I guess there’s not much changing that. Maybe I’ll go to the gym like I should. |

You want a light one, you have to build it to be light from step 1. If you're happy with the barrel? Good enough. Everyones expectations for accuracy are different. I would definitely consider putting a decent trigger in it, changing the butt stock, and maybe putting an adjustable gas block on it if you plan on shooting suppressed. Those 3 items will make the gun more comfortable and shootable, and potentially a touch more accurate. |
