I read and saw positive things about the rifle and was wondering if anyone has any time behind it. What are the pros and cons of the rifle? TIA for all comments. |

I don't have experience with that particular model but you are at or approaching CZ pricing. |

I don't have an 8378, but do have a 8400 Ruger Precision Rimfire. The bolt assemblies appear to be identical, as are the cheek risers. The 8400 is a cheap gun... cheap furniture, just feels cheap. The extractor is held on by a spring clip, and out of the box my RPRR won't extract CCI Standard or Federal GMM. It will extract all the SK ammo, because SK has fully lubed cases. Since I have piles of 10/22 mags, the 8400 is a cheap way to try precision rimfire... but if you're going to be serious about it, the CZ, Tikka, Bergara or Vudoo seem better choices. The Ruger bolt is rough, extraction is poor and the "30moa rail" only required 25moa of adjustment to zero. At 100 yards the RPRR is moa or better, really likes SK Rifle Match, but past 100y it falls apart. So if you could get a 8378 cheap, already have 10/22 mags and don't plan to shoot NRL22 or much past 100 it would be fine. If you think you're going to try NRL22 or PRS Rimfire, my $0.02 is to get something better. |
I have a 8438 Target model I picked up a couple of years ago. I Modified it to fit into a Boyds Pro Varmint stock that I customized. With Ammo it likes, It shoots quite well   I looked hard at the Savage, but I'm not a fan of the magazine set up. I also looked at the CZ, again, not a fan of the magazine. the 10/22 rotary magazine is what sold it. But Ruger still has not mastered putting a Rimfire match chamber in a rifle marketed as a "Target" rifle. I like the rifle and it is very accurate with SK standard and Eley Target. When there not crazy stupid in price. If I had it to do over again, and it was available at that time, I would have got the Bergara B14R. I think it is a bit more accurate and the magazines are much better then either CZ or Savage. |

FWIW, I don't have one, but we've been shooting a 200 meter .22 silhouette match at our club. There are several Ruger American rimfires there, and they will shoot with all the other rifles mentioned. They may not group 1/4 minute like a Vudu, but the practical accuracy is more than sufficient. |
| I was watching for the 8378 but it hasn't been in stock at any of my LGS and I haven't seen one stocked online either. But take a look at YouTube. There are some videos there but not a whole lot of info on its performance. The few reviews I've seen weren't bad but the CZ, Tikka and even the RPRF might be better rifles in the same price range. |

Selecting the optic to put on it now. Edit: While installing a bipod swivel mount on the MLOK rail. I noticed the front hex action screw was loose so tried to tighten it. Unfortunately the screw is just not long enough by 1/8 inch to engage the barreled receiver. But more alarming is that the rifle left the factory that way. To say that I’m bummed is an understatement. I called Ruger customer service and took a mpeg of the problem. This rifle is brand new and never fired other than at the factory. |
| Called up Ruger Customer Service and told them about my problem. The CS person asked if I could take a picture of the the problem. I did one better and sent a mpeg of the front receiver screw not engaging the BR. Low and behold Ruger sent me two receiver screws of the correct length in two days and some Ruger swag with a letter apologizing for the inconvenience. That’s what I call customer service!! |
