I have a Ruger American Predator in .308 currently, stock. How much of an upgrade would it be if I purchased a Remington 700 .308 24" Bolt Rifle w/ TIMNEY Trigger |

This question is not possible to answer. Remington rifles have over the years varied from total crap that needed the action trued by a competent gunsmith to guns that from the factory would shoot good groups, but most were 2 MOA to 4 MOA guns without work. One can upgrade the trigger and then have a great trigger on a 4 MOA gun. Note: these were deer rifles and minute of deer is a rather forgiving standard ( strongly upheld by both Remington and Henry). Want a rifle that shoots under 2 MOA and doesn’t cost a fortune….thats Ruger. Want a better Ruger look at the stainless models. The good news is that if you throw huge amounts of money at a Remington action you can have a world class precision rifle (see GA Precision). An upgrade without needing major work ….. Tikka CTR , all of the Tikka rifles don’t leave the factory unless they are SUB MOA just like the SAKO rifles that go out the door at the other end of the same building. |

At one point, about 15 years ago, I fiddled with a couple of Remington 700s which were both brand-new, and manufactured around the same time. One had a bolt that was nice and smooth, the other felt like the action was full of sand when you'd cycle the bolt.
