H414 - 42gr
Hornady Brass
Federal GM210M primer
Barrel 26" Hawk Hill marksman contour
Average velocity: 2760fps

Some notes on the load I've noticed: its somewhat dirty, not awful or unbearable, but a bit more soot on the case necks and in the barrel. Accuracy was good, .5 from a 10 shot group at 100y off a bipod and concrete bench. SD was 20, obviously not the greatest but Im going to chalk some of that up to being newer to reloading and having some looser neck tensions from bullets I had to tap out a bit and seat to the right length, a little better loading on my part im sure would drop that down a lot.

That velocity looks great, better than H4350.

I'm going to try RL-17 and 140's in my JP barreled AR10, since I can find it, but can't find H4350.  What was your starting load?

Just picked up some RL-17 since H4350 is not obtainable. Will be my 1st at reloading the 6.5cm. Been reloading mostly 308 with varget but have done 50BMG and 40 S&W. Don't see anyone posting superformance data. Not that good? Will be reloading the 140 ELD'd once I build up enough brass.I see varget is do able. Are you folks pushing max limits with varget? Varget is my preferred powder for 308.

I gave up on the Unobtanium H4350 powder, and tried the new IMR 4451 "enduron" powder

Absolutely solid performer. Less vertical dispersion, much cleaner burning, less copper fouling, and has a much more pleasant smell when burned than H4350

Ruger RPR 6.5 Creed
1x Fired Hornady brass, FL sized with Forster FL die, trimmed 1.917"
40.6gr IMR 4451
Hornady 140gr ELD-M
Seated 2.819"
Velocity: ~ 2660FPS

Grouped .3" with repeatability. Almost all horizontal dispersion from yours truely.

No pressure signs, no swiping, clean brass, not hard on primer pockets.

The sweet spot accuracy node for this load in this rifle was between 40.6gr and 41.5gr of 4451.
best groupings were at both ends of this charge 40.6 and 41.5 respectively.

Above 41.8gr, I began to see primer cratering and ejector swiping. Maxed at 42.7, and really didnt feel comfortable pulling the trigger on that loading.

MAX LISTED LOAD DATA FOR IMR4451, PUSHING A 140GR PILL, IS 41.1 GRAINS.

According to Hodgdon reload site, 4451 max charge is 41.1 gr.
I just looked at Alliant web site for RL-17 data on 6.5 creadmoor. 6.5 creedmoor is not listed. In the hornady book though.
I might have to get 1 lb of 4451. According to Hodgdon web site, 4451 is a touch better than h4350 just looking at the data.

I just about pulled the trigger on a bunch of IMR 4451 until I found Re-17 in stock again. It looks like IMR 4451, Re-17, and H4350 are all very similar, so it makes sense that IMR 4451 would be working well for you guys.

The load I have been using is:

Nosler Brass

Remington 9 1/2 primer

42.5gr Re-17

123 A-Max OAL 2.750" (.050" off on my gun)

123 Nosler CC OAL 2.695" (just to get enough of the bullet in the neck)

Both are shooting .5" - .75" groups for me. I haven't had the time to see if I can work up a better load yet, but it's on the to-do list.

Chronographed the 123 A-Max at 2940 out of a 24" 1-9" twist Lilja.

I can't find any H4350 so I've been using RL17.

Working up loads for my new gen1 Ruger Precision Rifle 6.5 Creedmoor with a Little Bastard gen2 brake, so far the best RL17 load I have is:

Hornady brass, uniformed primer pockets, outside neck turned to 0.013", case trimmed to 1.915"

Fed 210M primer

41.9 grains of RL17

Hornady 140 grain ELD-M bullet

Cartridge OAL 2.82"

200 yard target.

I'll keep working on it, but this is the best I have so far.

I tried going up with RL-17 but started seeing case swipes at 42.4. Decided 42.0 is working good for me so will stay there. Got ahold of a few pounds of H4350 since my 8 lb deal fell through. Am already 1 grain above max according to Hornady manual and hodgdon web site. Groupings not great. Going to go higher but am a little hesitant due to pressure. But I see folks posting much higher that what I'm using with success. This last batch should tell the tale but so far RL-17 is working best for me out of my Savage 10T.

OK, I've manage to tweak my Ruger Precision Rifle 6.5 Creedmoor load from a couple of posts up.

I annealed my case necks to get a more consistent neck tension and I went to the Magpul AI magazine so I could seat my bullets out further.

The stock magazine would only let me load to a COAL of 2.820" (approximately .046" off the lands) with the AI magazine I loaded 50 rounds at a COAL of 2.846" (approximately .020" off the lands).

Between those two changes I don't think I'm going to get a load that shoots any better with the stock barrel.

Here's my 200 yard target from this morning (I went to shooting long range steel after I shot this one).

Nice shooting. I always have 1 flyer out of 5 shots when doing load development. I put mine .010 off the lands for best results. Just loaded up another batch to try but don't think I will get through them all. Started at 42.0, then 42.2, 42.4, 42.6, and 42.8 gr of H4350. I didn't have any issues with 42.0 last time out. Just not tight enough for me. Hope to hit the range before the temp drops early next week.

Since H4350 is so hard to find, I decided to try some other powders.

4831sc was on the list.

I'm shooting 140gr Nosler cc.

Started at 42gr and worked up to 45grs.

Found a great node in there, but was way too slow. 45gr was getting close. No pressure signs at all.

Will be trying out 45.5, 45.8 and 46.1 next weekend.

My shooting partner has been using it in his 260 with great results.

Was going to try it but decided to sell the creedmoor for a 338 LM for my load distance needs. RL-17 did a great job for me on my creedmoor though. Allot of questions whether its temp sensitive though. Alliance says not while others say yes. Actually RL-17 did better than H4350 with less powder used for the same POI @100 yards. Didn't get to finish my load development before selling the creedmoor though.

Hornady manual max load for IMR 4350 w/ 140gr bullet is 41.5gr.  I have had good results with that charge weight.  I loaded up to 41.7gr w/o pressure signs but found the groups opening up.  My buddy however, using same powder and bullets has found his RPR likes a lighter charge, around 40gr.  Its going to differ from gun to gun.

FYI according to Hornady Manual 9th edition for 140gr and IMR 4350:
Minimum Charge= 38.2gr
Max Charge = 41.5gr

I'd be interested in seeing just how slow you're pushing the 143 ELD-X with that powered charge. Hodgdon only predicts 2598 fps at a 36.3 gr charge of Varget (which they call "max load") using a 142 SMK.

My point being unless you're shooting inside 500 yards, you're not fast enough to be putting that 143 ELD-X's high BC to good use. Let us know what it chronographs at...

For reference, most of us are pushing the 143s at 2720-2770 fps in 24"-26" barrels using H4350

Roger that...as Rob said, try out some IMR 4451 as it's readily available it seems. Watch Midsouth Shooters Suppler, Powder Valley, and Reloading Unlimited online for H4350. They usually have it about once a week

I chronographed the load at 2585 FPS out of my rifle.  I also played around with the OACL and have a recipe that is delivering excellent results at 100 yards.

I shot 18 rounds with Reloader 17 (what I could find locally) starting from 39.6 grains up to 41.1 grains.  I found a node at 41.1 and 40.5 grains that I will make more rounds for and confirm accuracy and velocity this weekend.

Cronographed Prime 130 grain BTHPs out of my rifle at 2870 FPS, and had good accuracy results... I'm shooting steel on Saturday and plan on having a great time confirming the dope on my bullets and making nice ringing sounds!

Cronographed Prime 130 grain BTHPs out of my rifle at 2870 FPS, and had good accuracy results... I'm shooting steel on Saturday and plan on having a great time confirming the dope on my bullets and making nice ringing sounds!

Awesome, sounds like you're geared up for a nice weekend. That RL17 node at 41.1 will more than likely give you much better velocity than the 2585 fps. Not that you can't shoot distance with the 143 going 2585 fps, you're just not taking advantage of it's high BC as much at slower "308 like" velocities...more elevation and windage will be required

If you go with the RL17, try to continue taking velocity data across a wide spectrum of temperatures...it's known to be a good powder for 6.5 CM, but not nearly as temp stable as say H4350 or even Varget
