| So I gots me a head injury on active-duty and since then, I get overwhelmed with math, mils and moa. I need a KISS scope for an AR10. I really like the ACOG and Primary Arms scopes for their six-foot rule for distance. Trouble is, the ACOG is fixed and the Primary Arms PLX scopes are a LPVO, nothing for distance. So what do you recommend for a scope under $1500? |

Vortex Viper 2.5-10x44 The BDC reticle is only true at max power …. 10x Lower power settings on a second focal plane can be figured out because just like field of view (side to side) changes showing more the space between BDC marks changes its value unlike FFP tactical optics. But if you take a large target then zero at 100 or 200 you can go back to 300,400,500,600 etc and shoot at those distances still aiming at the center with no attempt to correct. Then take a can of spray paint and mark those groups below center. Return to your known distances like 300 yds and make notes how the BDC reticle compares at 10x at 2.5x and at 6x (others if you want) to where the bullet strike is in relation to the reticle marks. What you find with a 2FP BDC scope is people dial down to a lower power like 6x which in low light makes the image look brighter. But since the BDC marks represent more area between each mark at 6 than at 10 they shoot over their target. Once you realize how it works, you can either only use the center x which is the same at any power then hold over or you can keep it on 10x and use the BDC reticle to estimate hold over. Or you put in the work to find out what those marks represent at 6x etc. OR SWFA SS 3-9 x42 FFP This is First Focal Plane with a mil based reticle but with a FFP scope the image appears to grow larger as you increase magnification and marks in the reticle always have the same value. With this you run a ballistic chart in MIL then either hold over using marks on the reticle or dial in correction. I’d suggest you Look at: https://www.kentonindustries.com/ They make custom BDC cams. Check which scopes they make them for and pick one you like, then get a BDC cam for it! For example, I got one for my Trijicon Creedo HX 2.5-10x56 for my 300 blk subs (because they have a LOT of drop). It’s in 10 yard increments from 50-300 yards, so all I have to do is turn the knob to whatever range I want and it’s dead on. It also has MOA at the bottom so I can do the math and dial if I’m using supers. I’m considering getting some BDC dials for my Leupold mark 4’s instead of replacing them with Mark 5’s… that would save me a lot of $$$. |
