Just picked up a CZ 457 synthetic stock model for $600 OTD. Pretty nice no frills rifle for the money. Planning on suppressing with a B&T Print-X Tiger .22 once my LGS gets their next order of cans from B&T. Haven't shot rimfire in a loooong time. Literally haven't fired a .22 since I was a boy when I'd come home from school, grab Dad's rifle from under the bed before he'd get home from work, and I'd go outside and play like a proper child of the 90s.  What optic do you recommend for a handy little rifle like this? Used for general purpose plinking and maybe squirrel one day if get inspired. I have a Leupold VX-R (1-4x) that I pulled off a Marlin 336c (where it didn't really belong IMO), and now I have nothing to put it on. Maybe it'll be a good fit for this rifle? What do you think? Lastly, what is the best scope ring base for the money? Warne ($75), CZ ($135), or EGW ($90)? I've never mounted a scope base to these thin 11mm receiver dovetails...always had something that was drilled and tapped for centerfire rifles. Can I assume this is good to go and preferred vs. drilling and tapping? I am going to be putting a Super Yoter thermal scope on it from time to time, so it definitely needs to be secure. Thanks in advance for any tips! |
 This 40 year old Ruger has killed plenty of squirrels with a cheap WalMart Bushnell scope.It was a blued barrel and black anodize receiver when purchased from Graf and Sons, with a carbine stock. I think it has a 4X prism optic on it right now. It has introduced many new shooters into our world. Cheers! |

Let's put it another way - what would be the ideal optic, LPVO or otherwise, to compliment a Super Yoter thermal scope that primarily sits on the Ruger American Ranch 5.56? If I want to put the thermal on this CZ temporarily, I want something that still makes sense on the RAR 5.56 for daytime use. Maybe I'll just give the Leupold 1-4x a try and see how it works out before I go buying new glass. |
| Area 419 mounts are really nice on those, my son and I each have one on ours. I put a Leupold Mk4 on his and I’m running the Athlon Match Pro ED on mine. I highly recommend the Area 419 mounts, rock solid and flow with the lines of the receiver. |
