Morning Gents. For Christmas this year the wife has said she wants ti treat me to a new bolt gun. While I'd love to have a Mk13 clone or a TRG42, those are out of the budget. That budget being $1200 for the rifle. I've already got a nice Nightforce ATACR sitting in the safe that'll go on top. I'll also end up buying a surefire 7.62 RC2 or use my existing AE M24 can on it. So at this point I'm looking for off the shelf suggestions. For something that has a decently heavy profile barrel, is threaded, and is of course reasonably accurate from the factory. I know the budget limits me, but I've seen great stuff from Bergara or some of the Rugers, but that is usually 6.5CM or .308 short action stuff. Im not familiar with either companies long action offerings. I also dont expect anything in this budget to come with the best stock/chassis, so I'm cool with upgrading that down the line as well. Also, last thing here is Id like to be able to shoot 220gr SMKs. I bought those in crazy bulk for 300BLK so if I can reload those and get decent performance out of them that would be great. Otherwise factory ammo will probably be all FGMM 190gr stuff. Thanks for the help! |

Accurate, aftermarket support for triggers and stocks, easy to get a new barrel for if you ever get that far down the rabbit hole. Im assuming this will not be a hunting rifle? As far as caliber, especially that it sounds like you reload, Id go with 300 PRC over WinMag. Its just a bit more flexible, and handles the 200gr+ bullets easier. About 50% of what I shoot from my 300 PRC is a 220 SMK. The only time I recommend a 300 WM anymore is if the person has no interest in reloading, and/or needs to be able to get a wide variety of ammo anywhere. |

Last June I was in your shoes. I researched a lot of rifles. I landed on the Bergara HMR in 300 WM. I am very happy with it. I shot two rounds at 300 adjusted down .2 mil and shot two more. Not bad for 300 yards. First two shots: Attached File The next two were even with center on either side of the paster. |

I was very happy with Browning Canyon Speed in 300 WM , I actually have two one threaded and one not. Well technically they are both threaded but the non suppressor one is a silly pitch that is worthless. Accuracy was very good right out of the box with factory Hornaday ELD X ammo. |
