So how are you carrying spare ammo for your bolt guns? Magazines? Loose ammo in your pocket?
What sort of pouches have you found that work for aics or ruger synthetic gsr mags? |

i have yet to see anything that work really well, so i'm still using 50 round plastic ammo boxes. lot of room for improvement in this area.
what i really want, is a long elastic strip in a loksak quality ziplock bag that i can slide down into the same pocket as my water bladder. |

That could cause a lot of condensation on the cartridges. If you are shooting a lot of ammo as in long range shooting, bottom metal with detachable mags makes a lot of sense. Even on fudd guns, I like the SAKO 75 action the best, with the wonderful stainless detachable mags that fit flush in the rifle, feed smoothly without failure, and can be carried easily in pockets. |

I carry it in the magazine if I'm hunting and I bring enough to fill the mag and that's it.
For match work, depends. If at all possible I keep it in a small plastic cooler to keep the temp stable. Less often in 50 round plastic cases pulled from said cooler. Where necessary, pre-loaded mags stuffed in appropriately sized mag pockets on an old surplus LBV. |

i probably should have said "need the ability to comfortably carry 200 rounds" instead of "usually...."
average PRS match these days is 200-250ish rounds over 2 days, and trending up. so usually need about half that per day. I like to carry a little more than i think I'll need though. One match last year, threat of rain on the second day caused the match directors to decide to shoot a bunch of extra stages on the first day, so having a little extra ammo on hand was handy. also, you never know if you'll get into a shootout (i.e. tie breaker) or have to reshoot a stage. And is some poorly run matches, you may have a stage that requires a disproportionate amount of ammo. In a lot of matches, you get to go back to your car around lunch, so you could carry less and resupply, but not all. and in many of those instances, you're actually carpooling in the back of somebody else's truck so it's best to have what you need in your pack. |

I don't take the boxes, but I do use the plastic shell holder that comes in the Federal Premium boxes to keep different ammo types separate as I typically have two or more types of ammo with me.

Mine doesn't have the loop inside. It fits 338 Lapua length cartridges. Nice pack. |

Tenzing SP14 fast initial thoughts and a few less than high quality pics.
The pack is well made, and has a few nice touches, like the built in rain covers. For this initial review, I did not put anything in the pack, other the rifles. I first grabbed my MK12 clone and immediately found that with it strapped in, it placed the pistol grip in a rather uncomfortable position. Suffice it to say having a pistol grip between the cheeks is less than optimal. While I could bring the rifle further forward, or higher up, it would be further away from your back. I decided to table this effort, but I'm not seeing how a semi-auto will work just yet, So next I decided try it with a conventionally stocked rifle. 
With the HS stocked rifle it carried, around the house anyway, much more comfortably. 
With the rifle strapped in using the fitment blocks and the Hypalon straps the load feels stable. I would imagine loading the pack will both help, having the rifle sink into whatever you put into the pack, but also maybe hurt as the more you put into the pack the further away from you back the load is setting. In contrast the Eberlestock GSII I've been using carries the rifle inboard negating this condition. I'm not saying either pack is better or worse, just pointing out a design difference. 
The Hypalon straps can be moved up and down the length of the spine, but as you see in this picture care must be exercised if you want to be able to shoot without removing the rifle. 
One disappointment is the pouches on the waist belt, they have a nice clip style removal system on the rear, but you have to unthread the webbing from the adjustment buckle. leaving a log tail of webbing, as seen here. 
The elastic ammo loops are just barely tight enough to hold .223, plenty snug for .308. My initial interest in this pack is something to take to comps or maybe when I need to travel lighter and the GSII is a bit much. In the end I will have to transfer my normal load into it a give it a try before I can really give much more than this quick review. |
| I usually just carry two mags if I'm hunting around home and really have never needed the second one I just carry it for good measure. At PRS matches I carry 2-3 mags and have just been putting the ammo in my pack in the factory box but I think I'll do something better in the future just not sure what. |

Completely ironical that you just posted this today. I just realized after I read your post, that I never sent that hat back to you to get that fix the way of my thinking. Back to the conversation at hand, I have actually not used it used much. So this makes me rethink getting it back out and using some. As I said the review I wrote I don’t see it being used with the semi auto stuff, which was more my intent originally. I like it because it’s not really big but it’s big enough that I think it would fill a decent role with my SPR. But other options will have to be considered. I do think I will have to use it with one of the botl guns, and loaded up with all the stuff I normally carry. |
