What are my options for a 50 BMG rated bipod, ideally with a picatinny rail mount? This is for a bolt action, total weight somewhere around 34lb. My preference would be something more "tactical" and less "f-class/benchrest" (no joysticks or micrometers or hydraulics with external adjustment pistons) The main usage is fun/informal ELR shooting, though I might try out competing eventually. I've tried the Atlas 5H. I wanted to like it, but I found the cant adjustment to be sticky. I'd try to slide it to where I wanted it, and it'd resist, then suddenly jump and overshoot. I didn't think it was great to use. I also found the pan feature would start twisting and getting things out of place after the first shot. I like the idea, but the execution didn't work great for me. I've currently got an Atlas SCAL. I used it a lot on my 300 and 338 and was happy with it. After about 50 rounds on the 50, it loosened up and got sloppy and weird. The hardware was backing out. The staking holding the plates that set the leg angle was smushed/pulled through. (Those plates are held on with the leg pivot bolts and plates appear to be staked to the bipod body to tighten them up, rather than being machined to fit tight against the bipod body) I've reassembled and tightened the hardware back up, but there's extra slop and wiggle in it now and I'm giving thought to how to anchor those plates better when (if?) this goes back onto the 300/338. I might be able to baby it, always use the ski/pad feet and make sure it can slide, but I've lost confidence in it and think continued use on the 50 would kill it. I've done some searching and see the Accu-Tac HD-50 and the Elite Iron 50 cal variant. Of those two, I really like the EI's suspension arrangement, but from the photos on their site, it looks like it mounts with grub screws that bite the pic rail to hold it on. I'm super hesitant about it mounting like that and can see it chewing up my rail during recoil and giving me problems. I'd feel better with a recoil lug(s) in the mount. They also seem allergic to providing info. Is it that hard to add some measurements to the diagrams so I can tell things like the barrel pass through diameter, what height/length the different mounts sit at, etc? Important stuff when your bipod has a non-standard mounting arrangement like this. There's the GG&G bipod and Serbu has a bipod. Are there any other bipods I should look at? Thanks!
