Sorry this pic is so big. I was pulling apart some factory loaded .223 and found a few like this. Is it still usable with an offset flash hole like this? |

I was asked if all the other GFL brass had the same flash hole problem and the answer is no. No issues depriming them either with a RCBS small base sizer die. But as suggested, I will just toss them in the trash because why the risk. Also, any idea what manufacturer uses this head stamp on the case on the far left? Also has an off-set flash hole.  |

If that's the only thing wrong with it, load it with FMJ's for short range practice, for when bubba comes over and wants to shoot or when you attend events that disallow policing your brass. It "worked" just fine straight from the factory. I have an old Lee c-press that has so much slop in it now I can wiggle the shell holder around enough to punch out offset primers with ease. I always use a universal depriming die before cleaning my brass. I want the carbon knocked down before resizing them. |

I've found off-center flash holes in just about every brand of brass. It's an uncommon, but not horrible, issue. Now if you find brass marked A-MERC, you'll find that the percentage of off-center flash holes is crazy high. I have a collection of this brass in different calibers, and EVERY SINGLE CASE I'VE FOUND has an off-center flash hole. Some of them are way off, too. I'm not a fanboy of GFL brass, but I also don't hate it. However considering that this forum is about reloading for precision rifles I'd suggest that any brass like this should be relegated to practice use, and not in some application where concentricity might be important. |
