This is why I snatch up these older Savage 10FP/10 Tactical rifles when I run across one at a good price. I have five now, three in .223 and two in .308. They all shoot fantastic. I was going to drop this one into an MDT chassis but seeing as the cheap factory stock isn't a problem, I'll leave it as it sits. I picked this one up a couple months ago off the EE...  Tried three different hand loads (5-shot groups) and it seems to like them all... NOTE: this is only about 70 yards due to the range I was using.

The actions aren't the tightest, and there's frequently evidence of machining that wasn't smoothed out, but damn if they don't shoot like a spotted-butt ape. I have a hog hunter in a chassis from MDT. Great rig. Doesn't like hornady sub-x but that's the only thing I've found it won't do well with. |
