Plate indexes on the receiver. Why add the groove?

Did the MRGG come with that gap between the lower and hand grip ... IE, is that the OEM handgrip ?

FWIW... this one should fix the gap... TYPE 2..

https://magpul.com/miadgen1-1gripkit-type2.html?mp_global_color=118

How thick is the additional spacer ?

Would it be needed because of the G Super 42 braided wire buffer system, "needing" a little more room with a 308 length BCG ?

The plate has no indexing notch to keep the buffer from rotating.  Its just friction.

That big spacer is the endplate.  It has an A5 buffer system, that's not effected by the location of the castle nut or end plate.

I had 20 minutes today to get it zeroed.  A1 Stock.  Made a spacer to match the internal depth of the A5 buffer.  Magpul grip, standard safety and put in a Geissele High Speed Trigger.

The internet said MRGG hated 147gr bullets, and it does.  6 shots at 100yds.

To get it on paper I grabbed a cheap box of S&B off the shelf in the shop.   Once zeroed I shot a 6rd group with it also

Tomorrow night I'm putting the thermal on and shooting AA Batteries wrapped in aluminum foil at 100yds off a tripod.  I'll be using the cheap ammo.

I don't believe that will be a common occurrence.   I'm more impressed with the 100yd 10rd group I shot standing with the tripod tonight trying to find the battery wrapped in aluminum foil.   And the Lancer mag worked fine.

Have just over 200rds through it now, and it's settled in and I've got everything where I want it.
I did a final zero confirmation yesterday before stretching it out to 1200yds today.

Out to 700yds, there is no noticeable difference  between the S&B and Sig ammo on 10" steel plates.    Beyond 700yds, the S&B doesn't shoot worth a crap.  The Sig ammo easily held 1 MOA on a 10" plate at 100yds, but had no energy to even wiggle the steel.   Full size IPSC steel at 11 and 1200 were hit, but again this caliber has nothing left at that point so I have no idea where the hits actually landed.  Overall very impressed with the rifle.  It's my first 6.5, and the hits at 1000yds were absolutely easier with it than when using my .308.

FWIW... you might try some Hornady Amer. Gunner 140gr. ( cheaper then the SIG )

I have had outstanding results with it.

And how did the brass look after the S&B... the 140gr has a different ogive profile... that can get pressed into various chambers, easier then more "pointy" ogives.

In two rifles, Hornady 140 ELDM and American Gunner shoot identically. Gunner's cheaper, and there's no plastic tip that could remotely possibly be deformed, so that's my preference.

34 degrees, 30 MPH winds and snow, but today was the day I had scheduled to test my hand loads out to 1200yds.   Conditions/visibility weren't worth wasting ammo that far today, so bullets were spent at 1k.   1000yds on a 10" plate holding over 1.4 mils rang steel time after time.  140gr Berger HT over 41.3 gr of H4350 and S&B brass is an absolute 1 MOA shooter at 1000 yards with the MRGG.  I have loaded with SIG, Hornady, S&B and Black Hills brass.  The best SDs are always the with the S&B brass.

@bigbore

One of these is on my short list, IE probably my next purchase.

Have you noticed any POI shift going from bi-pod to tri-pod?

I've seen reports of this on other forums, but I trust your feedback so figured I'd toss it out there.  I don't do a ton of tripod shooting but I'd like to be able to without concern.

[Last Edit: bigbore][Edited] [#35]
That should not be a mechanical concern. It's a free floated barrel, the barrel has no idea where the hand guard is resting on anything.

Many moons ago when I was shooting high power across the course (2, 3, 600yds)  I had a different zero standing, sitting and prone.   It is incredibly difficult to manage recoil standing the same way you do prone.

I do quite a bit of tripod shooting, and I'm getting better the more I practice.   I do 30rd drills. 10 standing 10 kneeling, 10 prone.  I can hold all those rounds in a 3MOA target out to 500yds.  For the internet experts I know that sucks, but that's where I am. I don't cherry pick the 10 shots made prone, I go by all 30rds.

I've been asked this many times lately. "Is it a mechanical with the gun, or my shooting?" The best advice is I can give to someone to honestly confirm ability is it's best to not know where your hits are until you are done.  People always look at their groups and adjust as they go, even if its subconscious.  Take a paper target that's got a bunch of hits in it and glue it to fresh cardboard.  When you're done, flip it over and and see where the hits were.  Staple an old t-shirt over a target.   Don't worry about a specific aiming point, you're not zeroing, you're shooting.  Nothing you will ever shoot at that has a pulse will have an "X" on it.

This is me. This is my 30rds in the dark, holding the center of the head, having no idea where I was hitting.   Is that group big because the tripod cause the POI shift, or is it just much harder to shoot off a tripod compared to prone.  I consistently shoot a bit low standing, always have.  I'm getting better.  Again, it's an ugly group for everyone on the internet who shoots 1 MOA all day from any position, but there isn't anything I wouldn't have put down with any of those shots if that head was attached to a body with a beating heart.

Here's another target I was shooting at with the MRGG through my TCO.  The POA was a battery wrapped in aluminum foil.  (Ignore the big hole, I hit the battery a few times and it tore through.)  Can you guess which shots were prone?  Is that a POI shift, or just shooting from a position that's more difficult to shoot from?

Sorry for the long winded response, but no I don't believe there is a mechanical issue with this gun that causes a POI shift in different positions.   I can't explain how surprised and happy I am by how well this rifle shoots.

You’re correct.

You will absolutely have a different POI based off of your position. It has to do with body position loading pressure on the gun and recoil management, especially with a gas gun.

A man wiser than I would zero based on the predominant position he would be using based off of the terrain in the AO. Urban where he was going to be utilizing a tripod he would zero standing off a tripod.

Gotcha.  There have been reports done by the same shooter comparing different rifles using the same techniques that showed the G rifle had more of a shift than other platforms.

Figured it was worth asking.

According to people I have talked to that own them, the MRGG has over 1 moa of shift when moving the bipod around. Seems like a lot for something touted as a sniper rifle.

Some context would be nice.  Are the groups opening up 1 MOA, or shifting 1 MOA?  Are these guns shooting 1 MOA regardless of the shift?   This isn't an issue I've seen, but I don't move my bi-pod around.  Shooting off a backpack, or tripod it's not a issue I've experienced.

I was curious and braved the cold today and made a trip to the range.   I've recently developed Raynaud's syndrome which has significantly limited my cold weather shooting. But when you don't know your finger is on the trigger let alone where the 2nd stage wall is, you can't make good hits. It sucks getting old.

Not my best shooting, but I'm happy considering conditions.  My standard drill is 30rds of 10 prone, 10 sitting/tripod, 10 standing/tripod.

Ammo was S&B 140gr, 100yds.

After my 30rds, I shot 3 more 5rd groups with the bi-pod at 3 different locations.  There isn't a 5 shot group bigger than 1" and the 10 shot groups are under 2". There is absolutely no zero/POI impact change with the bi-pod at different areas of the rail. None.

Current rifle configuration

As I lost feeling in my fingers I'd have to get them warmed up and shoot a couple shots to see if I could feel the 2nd stage. Those are the holes labeled Raynaud's groups.
After 10 minutes in the car when I got back to the shop the tip of my middle finger was still dead. It sucks getting old.

FWIW... you might consider some of those "Pocket" hand warmers.

And thanks for all your valuable info !

And if you are taking any prescription mads... consider checking if any of those might limit blood flow.

Getting old sucks..  at least for me. Lol
*Hold on to your AR-15s. Their magic must be very powerful, or they wouldn’t want them.*
