| Looks like I am being pushed into 55gr bullets (Speer gold dot) out of my old Ruger M77VT. Yeah, one of the old ones. Is there any hope I can get 1-2 MOA out past 300 yards or do I have to fins some 45-50gr bullets? |

Limited experience with 1/12 twist here The Colt A1 20” rifles my Dept. got through the DRMO Program had 1/12 barrels. These were Vietnam era guns with triangle forends 55gr bullets were the spec required since heavier rounds needed faster twist to stabilize These guns were old school design from 1960s and long by today’s standards but they were extremely accurate Not sure if that’s helpful to you but 1/12 paired with 55gr was a winning combo in that case |

Just got from the range. 55gr V-Max is the shit at 100yds, 5 shots in .55", Next week stretching it out to 200, hopefully 300 to see how well it does. The 55gr gold dots should be here by then too, hope to test them out also. |

Any 55 grain bullets that I have tried shot fine. |

1-12 has been the standard for the 223 for a long time so to speak. I have had excellent results with 55gr bullets out Remington Varmint guns The Sierra 55gr HPBT is awesome with H4895 The Nosler 55gr Ballistic Tip is awesome with Varget and H4895 I never had good results with the 55gr V-Max though. The Speer 55gr TNT is awesome with TAC |

| I have a Remington model 700 stainless synthetic with a 1-12 twist. 55 grain pills run fine through it. I ran some reclaimed 62gr bullets through it and the group size was horrible. I assumed I screwed up when reloading them, however they performed well in my Mini-14 with a faster twist. |
| 1:12 twist barrels should stabilize up to 60/63 grain flat based bullets and almost anything 55 grain and lighter. The total length of the bullet determines whether it will stabilize or not. 55 grain solid copper boat tail bullets may be too long for a 1:12 twist. |

| I know this is a reply to an old post. I have a Remington model 788 .223. 4 x 12 Tasco scope. 1/12 twist. I reload. 55gr blitz & 60gr Hornady spire HP's that group at 1 " at a hundred meters. Favorite varmint load was Sierra 55gr blitz bullets. Shot even better than the lighter bullets. Killed many crows trying to destroy agriculture. Most shots 100 + meters. Even shot a few 62 fmjbt. Grouped about 1.5" at a hundred. Very much the exception. |
