I am curious if anyone here is playing this game, and if so I am curious what your setup is. My club BORCC here in SW Michigan has a monthly Rimfire Long Gong match. 300 yards, targets are 8", 6", and 4". You get 10 shots, have to shoot the 8 first, if you hit it you get to shoot at the 6" if you want. Then you can move to the 4". You shoot a total of 50 rounds. There are guys there with all kinds of custom guns. I would say the majority are CZ. Lots of Athalon scopes. Most guys use some form of match ammo. Anyway, I would love to see your setup if you are doing this. |

Sounds fun! I'm a assistant match director for a steel pig match at my local range. We have a swinger and a rail with 10 9" pigs at about 230 yds. We have 2 classes .22 and magnum (.17hmr and .22wmr). .17 hmr is the dominant caliber at our match given the wind we have. The .22 LR shooters that are competitive shoot CZ 455, CZ 457, Ruger RPR, tricked out 10/22s, and one guy that has a single shot rifle with an old Unertl scope (he wins often). I have had a rough relationship with my Bergara B14R, but hope to have a new KI Precision barrel soon. With .22 LR the ammo choice is critical. Eley Tenex and Lapua seem to be favored. I had luck with SK Long Range as well. Scopes are all over based mainly on how much money shooters can throw at the match. Arkens have been showing up more as they have a good reticle, magnification range and cost for rimfire. Athlon scopes are less common, but I recommend them to shooters that realize that a 3-9 plex reticle scope isn't going to work at that distance. NRL has been good for info on gear, and my friend went with a TRACT after spending an autistic ammount of research. I love my Leupolds, and run them on my .22 and .17 rifles. Having a reticle that can be used for a wind hold is my biggest recommendation. That is the variable that makes 200-300 yd shots difficult. Now I'm off to look at gongs for a 300yd match thanks! I have been trying to cook up a long range rimfire event for my Club. This might be it - easy to set up and take down; challenging; reasonably priced and permanent targets. Are there "official" rules? If so, post a link or post a copy. Thank you. Are the targets round or "long" in some fashion? How many of each in the 300 yard target area? 6" Round Target at ALCO -  ALCO also has 4" and 8" of the same type if this is the correct target type. They use "cruesabro" steel that is harder than AR500 and get harder and stronger with use. |

Mentioned the Long Gong concept during our Pig match yesterday, and one of our shooters has already acquired targets. We will probably add a .17HMR class due to its popularity. So, if we can get on the schedule we may have a similar shoot soon! Looking at how much further the 300 is from the 230 we currently shoot at, I may need to get a 30 MOA rail for my .22. |

My question is what thickness do they use to allow for impacts to be visible, but not so light to make follow ups difficult because the target is still swinging. |

The larger targets (4"+) really dont swing too much when they get hit as long as its properly hung (Have a solid post or hanger) |

This is just a random website but these would work Buy that, drill a hole in it and hang it from a chain. Or drill two holes to have it double hung (left and right sides) and it damn sure wont move. I'd probably hang a 6", 8 or 10" and 12". Hell maybe even a 15". Keep in mind, a 3 MPH cross wind shifts rimfire .5 mils at 300 yards (If my BC is right, I've been fucking with it a lot trying to true up my DSF!). That means if you dont hold wind and send it center mass on a 10" plate you'll miss it entirely. A 5 mph crosswind is 1.1 mils....Which means if you hold left edge on a 10" plate you'll still miss it entirely. Drop is easy....Wind is the black magic in the mix. If you havent really worked with wind I'd suggest getting a cheap Kestrel and taking it out with you from time to time. Measure the wind. Get an idea what the wind looks like and feels like. |

The reason one might want hardened steel is to allow leaving the targets in place. Centerfire people WILL shoot at them, even if you have a sign on each one saying "Rimfire Only!" Alternatively, take them down after use. A set of 3 hardened steel targets is under $100 at ALCO Targets. MGM Targets doesn't have a set of round targets, theirs are hexagonal. |

It is the responsibility of the spotter to call the shot as a hit or miss. There is no follow up shot - once you get a hit, you move to the next target. In that regard, low mass/easy movement would be a good thing. How many times have you thought you missed only to find you nipped the edge? |

Was orignally told 8-9 weeks. The ONLY contact I got from him was about 4 weeks ago where he picked up the phone and told me he just got some of the guns toghther and was shipping the following week. Since then NOTHING. No emails, no phone calls, nothing. I am thinking of having my credit card company reverse the charges. Yay! I ordered the barrel on the 1st of June. The site says 10 week lead time, and I'm hoping it is in that timeframe, but I have been seeing some of the same stories on other pages. I have other rifles, so I'm trying to be patient. |

I came to thank OP for showing us a fun match and how we have some targets to start a match of our own, and then I saw this in GD. To keep it going though here is the targets a friend made. We will see how much interest we get at our next pig match, and stand up a formal match. Get out and shoot... life is short.

Before I placed the order I was emailed back within hours. Once I placed the order I received a confirmation email. Since then I have only had contact that one time as mentioned above. I've called all week at various times. Nothing. I can understand having to wait for something, and I can be patient, but when you estimate 9 weeks and we are now double that time and no communication at all (while my money is in his hands), my patience is running out. |

I haven't heard anything. I had emailed asking about adding thread protector to my order and I never got a response. It's always troubling when you see a business not able to keep up with orders, but have the customers money. |

We ran our 1st Long Gong match Sunday and it was a great, but challenging time! It's a big change to go from 230 yds to 300. I ran out of elevation adjustment on my 10/22 and had to use hold overs. Apparently 20 MOA sight base wasn't enough for 300. Match has now costed me another $70.  We added a .17 HMR class for our match, and they definitely had better scores. Custom CZ 457 took the top place for the .22 shooters. Still waiting on my KI Precision barrel which probably would have made me more competitive (at least that is what I want to believe). Going to have to see what needs to be done to have our club affiliated with the official org. |

Still don't have my KI and will no word. Check out the most recent reviews on google (a number of new reviews over the past 4 weeks) Kurt just needs to let guys know what up. If it will take 6 months, just respond and let people know. Cant keep them hanging forever. |

Took a score of over 80 to be at the top of the heap. There was a perfect 27 shot one round. I did manage to finish in the top 50 at least. My setup is a CZ 457 with a Criterion 26" barrel in an Accurate Rifle Systems chassis with a few tricks in the action and a Tract scope. I does very well when I do my part. Currently have the local club round record at 21.

Crickets, so I did a dispute. I have a temporary refund from CapitalOne and I got a letter stating that they have reached out to the retailer, and I am going to assume he will do nothing. I don't know how many disputes you can have until your processor decides you are a risk, but this guy has to be close. |

We had our 2nd Long Gong match today. I took 3rd in the .22 class with the lofty score of 18, and the highest score for .22 LR was a 27. Our table didn't have a single hit on the 4" gong after all 4 shooters completed. Modded out CZ 457s were the rifles to beat as they were 1st and 2nd, with 3rd going to my modded out B14R. Wind at our range is really the biggest enemy typically you will lose your 1st 2-3 shots figuring what wind hold will get you on the 8", then if you are lucky a hit on the 6" and then the wind stops, or goes the other direction. Fun times... We have a .17 HMR class and I may bring mine out next time and shoot both if the attendance is low enough. |
