My son is stationed in Hawaii. While he was home on leave he got the Trump $1776 bonus and picked up excellent condition (albeit older model) Christiansen Arms .300WM. I want to start picking up ammo for him by adding a box or two to each one of my ammunition orders so he has a small stockpile when he comes home in a couple of years. He bought a box of Hornady Match 178gr ELD but didn't get a scope mount in time to shoot the gun before he had to go. I have no experience with the .300 so I don't know whether to buy him 178 or 195gr. Rifle will primarily be used for shooting at 4-600 targets unless he lives somewhere that he can hunt with it. Which do I stock up on for him? Edit: He said he did shoot it with a loaner scope and mount but only at 100yds with SP hunting ammo, so I still don't know which grain weight ELD. |

Unless I could confirm the 178’s are better in the rifle I would not stack them deep. I have seen some win mags have a preference for the heavies. I would buy a couple boxes of each and then verify the rifles preference before stacking deep. Good luck. |
