When you're dead, you don't know you're dead. Hence, dealing with this fact is not difficult. It is only hard for those still living around you.....It's the same when you're stupid.

That burger looks delicious and being that it's a lean meat I would imagine it would store for quite some time. We love freeze drying, but the one thing I wish I knew was how long meat will last. It's advertised as 25 years for most things, but for meat it seems 5 years is the common timeframe. But I know pressure canned meat lasts longer than 5 years, so I would think freeze dried meat would last a lot longer. Kind of a gamble when storing up a large emergency stash, I'd hate to find out that my tons of FD'd thin cut pork chops and turkey burger had all gone bad... |

| I'm looking to buy a freeze drier in the future. I'd love to get one by the time harvest comes this year but it might not make the budget. |

It is an investment for sure. And then when you get it, it usually comes with only a year warranty on the pump which is the part that breaks the most (and an expensive part). So running it around the clock when you get it is a good idea so you get the most use from it and if the pump goes out you can replace it under warranty (assuming they're still offering a warranty on it). Plus it pays itself off quicker. They have new pumps that should be better though. |

That is part of my delay also given the added cost of that option. The reviews seem to make it seem worth it though. |

The reviews seem to make it seem worth it though. We've had all oil free pumps (older models than that ones you'll get). We have three medium machines and we had to replace each pump at least once. All but one were under warranty. We ran all three machines around the clock. But I've heard good things about the new pumps and I hope they're as good as I think they are. You can also put your own higher quality pump on there too although ours have all been the ones Harvest Right offers (although I don't think they make the pumps themselves). |

I assumed any vacuum pump would work, but until I got into it I am not going to try to change up the pump version off the start. Especially at the prices they run! |
