this seemed like the most appropriate forum, pls suggest a different one if off-topic ? I got some ember holes in my surplus (ECWCS L3) polartec jacket in foliage green. Not a lot of commercial fleece patches out there and fewer good color matches. Can anyone suggest a source ? I'm headed to nosopatches[.]com unless I find something better. Yes I want it to be fleece rather than some other material like cotton. TIA... |

Embers, ah. I was thinking it was from wear and was going to say that indicates it needs to be a different fabric patch or it would just wear out again. Find a very used jacket of any size on Ebay or surplus store and cut it up? |

I find that cheap fleece blankets provide a good source of material. The ones at Walmart that ae in those large bins between isles with all different colors. Or go to a fabric store or place like hobby lobby and pick out whatever you want. |

Skip the hassle of repairing your damaged fleece jacket. Go to eBay and buy a Flame-Resistant GI FREE (Fire Resistant Equipment Ensemble) fleece jacket instead. Internal tag will clearly label garment as flame resistant having 79% Nomex/21% FR Polyester. Nomex is an Aramid fiber, so if tag says Aramid, it's FR. If no tag, move on. Cut up damaged jacket and make an internal upper chest pocket for your cell phone. Pro-Tip: These GI fleece jackets are sized (in the chest) rather large to allow for layering. Using GI sizing chart, my fleece jacket "should" be an X-Large-Long for my 46" chest. However, a size Large-Long fits my chest nice and snug, and that allows me to layer over it a size XL Long jacket. If you use the GI sizing chart, it will indicate your proper length of garment (Short/Reg/Long) and you should definitely abide by that. This way, I can wear up to two FR jackets inside an appropriately sized uninsulated jacket. I call it "differential-size" layering. |
