| Probably more than you want to spend, by far the best summer outdoor hat I own is an Australian Outback. It's a cowboy shape wide brim suede bottom and top with a mesh center. The suede holds moisture much longer than fabric but you still get that evaporative cooling effect. Mine's actually a Joze. An Aztrala buffalo is $89. Anyway, I boat so that means hours upon hours in the sun. Though not as pack friendly as a boonie, it is crushable. |

He makes custom hats, offers many unique features (velcro to make the boonie into an outback style or tricorn, mesh vents, hi-visability liners, etc...), and also has various pre-made hats for sale. The usgi maker ones seem to be better. I may see if he’ll make one for me again with specific requirements. I want a modern Tricorn and he may be the only way to do it. 4” brim. |
