Complain and wish in this thread. I'm looking for new projects. Is your logger crap because it's your favorite but it only runs on Windows? Do you wish there was an alternative to LOTW that would submit to LOTW and eQSL for you? Do you wish Thetis ran on Linux? And supported more radios? Do you hate programming DMR? Do you wish handheld radios could do satellite tracking on the radio themselves and manage the doppler correction automatically? Are you frustrated with how every ham club somehow manages to not have a useful, up to date website? Or that there's no one place to find hamfests on a calendar? Are all the repeater databases entirely out of date? Make your wishes here. Lodge your complaints. The first step is identifying the problem. Most hams are technically oriented. Many are extremely detailed, keeping logs of every contact, date, time, band, equipment used, etc. These same hams can NOT keep a web site, FB page, or anything else remotely current with actual information. And clubs? They are THE worst at it. I got a tri-fold flier at a ham fest a couple of weeks ago for a local Emergency Services Group. The had a web site and an email for more info. The web site was not theirs. I don't know what they did, but it is not theirs, and the email uses the same, wrong, domain as the web site.

That APRS remains a sort of "location awareness" function as most amateur radio operators use it. And that's because that's what the big 3 treat it as. ... that SOME option for encryption is not allowed. That the symbol rate for HF remains limited via legislation. ( I think?) |
| I would really like companies to open up their firmware on older radios to the community. There are a couple tweaks in the FT-8800 that would really be nice. |

(flamesuit on) If you don't send me $$, I won't acknowledge our QSO. Which I can understand for those wanting a printed/physical QSL Card, but electronically? While I'm not 100% up to speed on the in's and out's of QSLing these days, and yes DXpeditions cost money, operating and maintaining a station in some countries is asking quite a lot. A lot of dx have a much better station than the average ham, and they're proud of their achievements, well all those QSO's came from somewhere. I do know that some people/groups will open post their logs a few months or a year after an event.. so that's not too terrible. ********** rig specific dislikes: Yaesu FT-710: DVI port for monitor, not HDMI; and if you plug in a DVI > HDMI adapter, you'll damage your radio QRP Labs QMX+ (~): designing a radio to work on 12vdc, but only just, and you'll damage the radio running more than 12vdc (slight allowable tolerance on 12+ v), and they did institute a software fix to give more elbow room, but gosh, if you're going to do 12v, make it the same 12v range every other (typ) radio has had for the past 40+ years. Any newer HT... It would be nice for USB-C with PD to be the standard. |

A few years later the popularity of GMRS took off, so I got my GMRS license too. I use my ham equipment on GMRS frequencies, and I know I'm not the only one. I get what you're saying though. |

There are Part 90 + Part 95 type approved radios if someone wants to be a super stickler for type acceptance. Any Part 90 radio really will raise no eyebrows. Essentially every GMRS repeater is a Part 90, I don't know that there are Part 95 repeaters that even exist. One caution with Part 90 radios for amateur use (and GMRS) is to make sure they're unlocked for wideband, it varies by manufacturer and model. |

-Extra VEs can give the extra exam, but general VEs can only give the tech. -ULS -Clubs/ARES groups are mostly old retired men and make basically zero effort to have things that could work for people with families/working schedules. -Clubs lack of outreach to youth and people under 50 -old timers who think you should radio the same way they do, or at the minimum their way should trump the way you like to do it -projects that stall out once they function. So instead of being great and widely accepted they are good and people either love or hate it. -projects that have infighting and fork and then complete against each other |

There's a lot more than just .Mil in that allocation. A bootlegger may or may not be loved tenderly for being caught operating there but that's a risk which is up to them to accept. |

I'd love a new CB band that copied the 900 MHz ISM rules requiring FHSS in the low 30 MHz range. I'd advise not transmitting between 40 and 42MHz (and especially not near 40.530 and 41.530 MHz.) Or... you could always be creative and go the way WL2XUP did. No idea how he pulled that license off. |
