Walleye season opens this weekend in Minny.
Looking forward to getting out and trolling up some eyes on Saturday.
I like to pull bait tipped spinners behind bottom bouncers or keel weights.
If I get on a pile of fish or fish holding structure, I'll spot lock, and toss bait tipped jigs at them.

I know, I'm kinda geeking out, but this is almost a state holiday up here.

Never knew there was an opening day on Walleyes. Only trout have an opening day here.

Bottom bouncing, or jigging - nothing like a good walleye bite!

My neighbor from there is headed that way next week. Keeps crying, telling me there's no walleye here in Missouri because he can't catch them on his fucking white Mr. Twisters. I sent him a picture last week of a 3 pounder that I caught on a rattle trap.

We have an opening day for walleye and pike this weekend, I think bass opens in a week or two. This is supposed to protect spawning fish.

Our trout season closes then opens in april, not sure of those dates.

Our Dept of natural resources likes to keep busy.

Nice!  Good luck to you.

I'm going up to Ontario here next week for Walleye opener there.  Maybe I'll come back with a 35 incher to put on the wall!

We used to catch Walleyes trolling fire tiger Bomber #6's and fire tiger rattle tots at Summersville Lake in WV.

We used to catch a few Walleyes and even more Sauger trolling the Bomber 6A's in the Kanawha River up around Montgomery, WV.  Find a spot between a couple islands where the water was deep enough the 6A would bounce off the bottom and you could make pass after pass (motor up the river, drift back down) and catch sauger after sauger.  The Walleye seemed to be up at the beginning of the holes in shallower water.

No fight to them, but they taste good.

I kind of miss the MN openers.  Hitting the bait shops, waiting around with buddies, making last second lake selections; watching boat ramp fails, etc.
Now days, as soon as the ice is off here in SD we're in waders pursing shallow walleyes.  2 weeks ago I released 7 fish over 21" including a 29" and 26".  the spawn/post spawn bite is awesome and simple.  Find shallow gravel/rock and pitch a jig/plastic.  No live bait needed.

I'm off in a couple hours to be up for the Ontario opener.

Wish me luck for a 30+ incher!

Well I didn't catch a trophy but I caught a 27" walleye and a 37" northern.

Above photo is me and my cousin at the same lake, same lodge in 1996. His is on the wall.

Same cousin, more pounds.

I am actively salivating at the thought of those filets frying up in my kitchen.

Closest I can come is Culvers down here in March.
