Anyone have one of those 5' ultra-light spinning rod/reel combos?  What do you think?

I picked this up off eBay last week from a guy in PA, for only $6 bucks! Heck, the shipping cost more than the sale! LOL...

80's Shakespeare TSP-50 2 UL, mated with my 80's Shakespeare Alpha 1000 UL spinning reel, and 4# line.

Hopefully you can see it well enough in this photo, when I was at a nearby public park, with a weedless rubber worm rig that I made.

I have a 6’6” St. Croix Triumph and like a Pflueger President 1000, nice combo but I rarely use it, got so comfortable with Medium Lights.

old thread, but not that far down,
I still use a 4'6" UL setup for rivers, streams and brooks for trout. and just build a 6' 2-piece light for trout in larger rivers and maybe some kayak use.
in New England, the rivers are smaller than out west, the mountain creeks are tighter, I even met guys that trout fish with ice rods in brooks/streams

My primary ultralight setups are 5' and 5' 6" ultralight bass pro micro lite rods with shimano sienna 500 reels.
If the bite is really light, say vertical jigging perch or upbiting suspended crappies, we just bust out the ice fishing rods and jig over the side of the boat.

Its a great setup.  The guy that helped invent them (and the patent holder of the UglyStick) is a good friend and a distant cousin.  I have an uglystick prototype.  He has a barn full of them that Shakespear just wanted to throw away.
