I’m looking at a truck tent setup for limited use. One or two days at a time once or twice a year. Are these worth the money? My end goal is a canopy but I’m not interested in spending thousands at this time. |

Wife, daughter and I went camping in ours. It was cool and rainy. England. Do NOT underestimate the amount of heat a steel truck bed will suck out of the human body. Double the amount of padding/ballast/bedding you think you need. Grab one of those EZ up canopies from Walmart. 10x10’. Made a world of difference as we cooked off the tailgate. Covered the chairs we had, too. No regrets, overall. |
I had one in my tent camping days.  With an air mattress it was the best setup, comfortable and never a drop of water *if it was dry for setup*. Mine had a floor so you had to empty the truck bed out to set it up. I loved using it. |

I ended up getting a canopy topper for my current truck because of the short bed. |

What I will do next time is add in a pop up canopy with sides and turf to add onto the back end of the truck tent. A lot more room for "stuff". |

I think I could keep the rain off with just a tarp, but a zipper is nice in bug season. It wouldn't have a floor, but I see that as a benefit, because it's just faster setup/teardown, and nothing has to be brought inside the tent, as the tent is simply erected above whatever's already in the bed. A USB fan can help with the bugs. A commonplace 10,000mAh battery pack will run for 2 nights with margin to spare. |
