We have an Avenger 26BK and I want to replace the factory tires. Looking at Carlisle Radial Trail HD and Goodyear Endurance, but not sure which to choose. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. |

I posted in the tire thread lower down on this page about hoping to get thru this season. Hope ended up a prayer. I definitely got lucky. I had a blow out on the way out on 5/31. Tires inflated to the max 65 psi, ambient temp @75-80, and hit nothing on the road. It was just its time. Damaged the undercarriage just a little. Attached File Attached File Changed out easy peasy and back on the road. Got the exploded tire replaced with whatever the tire shop had available since they didnt have GY Endurance in stock. Bought the Tire Linc system(had it brought to me) to monitor pressure and temp for the trip home. It rained and kept the tires right at ambient temp the whole way home and pressure stayed below 70. I had already called the tire shop to put new tires on, but after cleaning the camper and parking, I pulled the tires to take them to the shop today. EVERY single tire on the ground was damaged(the spare I bought never saw road time) to the point of obvious swells and a couple of the tires would not even stand up. So, I got lucky and am happy to be able to take the tires to the tire shop on my own. |

It's hard to find a reason not to run LT tires on a trailer. If you choose something of decent quality and appropriate load range you can really lower the risk of blow outs compared to China bombs or any ST tire really. Even Airstream has moved away from ST tires. |

I'm on my second set of Carlisle HD's on my camper, and first set on my boat trailer. I've had nothing but good luck with them. They are good tires. I did have a brand new set of TrailStar cheap China tires on my boat trailer......one exploded within 100 miles of putting them on. Just exploded!! |

I see you had Castle Rocks. They are pure garbage. I had those on my rig and the spare grew a huge swollen bump on tread. They replaced it under warranty. I confirmed the other two on my trailer were the same lot and asked them if they would replace those also. They said no, next trip out I had a blow out going 65 on the highway which destroyed the wheel and part of my undercarriage. Replaced all of them w Goodyear Endurance. |

Casita trailer has a single axle so when backing up or turning it doesn't do the sideways tire drag which multiple axle trailers do, but being single axle there is no forgiveness if a tire fails. I had heard trailer tires have a stiffer sidewall because of turning loads, but I don't know. I wonder if Michelin makes an LT tire in my size.... Also, I would like to run something less than absolute full sidewall rated air pressure hopefully smoothing out the ride a touch. |
