A friend that processes hay full-time called this afternoon and asked if I'd get after the hogs that bulldozed one of his fields last night. "Sure." I head down and load up for hogs but also take an extra mag of coyote ammo, the caller, and a chair. It's a short walk to a slight crest that has a few large oaks and all his equipment parked under and around the trees. Popping hot as I walk up to the crest is what I think is a deer. Bright but the moon isn't up yet, I stop under the shadow of a tree, figure out it's a coyote mousing the just-cut field and not a deer, set the caller down a few feet away, unload hog bullets and load coyote bullets, adjust the tripod pouch so it'll hold the remote, unsling the chair and call bag and lay them down, futz with the scope and phone to start recording, get the remote turned on, and finally hit a rabbit call. Almost immediately he notices and starts running straight to me, to the point I'm nervous he won't stop. Still need to practice that bark.  BAM! I walked out, snapped a pic, dragged him to the bushes, loaded up, and headed back to the house. Too easy; nights like that will spoil ya'.  It's stoopid hot and miserably humid here so it all worked out just fine. Will return soon for another crack at the hogs.  On A String - Coyote Down  |
