https://www.amazon.com/?tag=arfcom00-20 There are 100s of budget options available you just have to search and read reviews for makes/ models that fit your budget and intended purpose. If money is no object go with a major name brand like Jackery or Anker. Again, whichever make/ model does what you need. Also, the power banks with a small solar panel built onto it won't really charge via solar. You need a portable folding solar panel and then pair it with the applicable size power bank that fits your needs. |

Both of these work well. First one will charge cell phone a couple times. |

Look at the dimensions for a 100w monocrystalline solar panel (higher efficiency than polycrystalline). Now extrapolate from that, what kind of wattage you could possibly get from a 3”x5” panel. I still have an older GoalZero 27w folding panel (got it ~10+ years ago for the backwoods kit). Folds into a thick book-size (~12”x9”x3”. Unfolded is ~36”x20”x0.3”). Obviously usable for charging GoalZero’s own powerbanks, but the USB-C output allows it to be used for charging lots of other brands with USB-C charging. This one is smaller, higher wattage, and cheaper than my old GoalZero folding panel. ![]()

Some of this needs to be distinguished between device to power source. Most solar panels are direct charging. You plug them into the device and they'll charge with sun exposure. Many have addititional ports so you can plug in a end user device (EUD) and a battery bank, which can later charger your EUDs when the sun is down. You hear the term "solar generator", they're simply a big batter with integrated inverter. When we're boondocking, we have a couple of Bluetti solar generators and large panels used to charge them which concurrently charging our smaller elctronics. For free sun energy, their inefficiency isn't too much fo a concern. What is helpful is having a full solar generator for the days you don't have sun or it's really overcast with poor exposure for your panels. By favorite (available) portable panel is the folding Bigblue (28W). It won't do computers really, but it will charge battery banks, phones and smaller electronics. To charge a computer or bigger devices, you'll need a solar generator and larger panels (100-200W). The big key is to understand how efficient your panels or solar generator/battery banks are and manage how much energy you use. ROCK6 |
