Any of you anglers on the east coast ready for the shad? I love the shad run here, we mostly get Hickory Shad, an American once in a while. I have been molding my own darts for quite a few years now, fun to find color and plumage color combos that catch 'em on every cast. It can get a bit crowded on the riverbanks with people sometimes, but damn I love it when I pull in 20-30 fish and everyone else combined gets like 5! |
| As a kid the Shad runs were fun back then, the Connecticut river was abundant with them. What was the smaller fish that runs with them, I can't remember their name. |

Also did VERY well with small silver spoons, esp with hickory shad. |

Thanks @Dave15 I like hand making my darts, way cheaper than buying the 3 packs at Bass Pro or Gander for 5 clams each. I also like to have a selection of color combos on hand whilst angling, switching colors seems to make a big difference at times. Good call on the spoons as well, I have definitely run spoons behind a dart and had really good success. My favorite though for the past couple years has been a 1/8oz dart tied behind a 1/4 oz dart, with different colors, helps me pinpoint what colors they like. |

Haven't gone in a few years, but yeah, some days color meant everything! Haven't made many lures. But plan too. Have a dozen of so deer tails for when I get around to making bucktails. Been casting sinkers lately. And sitting here making eel pots. Or, more accurately, repeatedly stabbing myself with a needle trying to sew the funnels! |

Finally got out this morning. Attached File Only took a hundred casts! 3 casts later, hooked another. Then had one shake off. Then shut back down. Did not want shad darts, tiny chrome spoons. Attached File Tons of white perch, 15:1 throwbacks, spawning run must be about done. They preferred green and yellow shad darts. And worms.  |

I made it down the the river on Easter. Beautiful morning, just wow, it was nice outside. I landed 12 in a bit less than two hours. I wish I had took more pictures. Planning on a couple more bank sessions, then boat action needs to happen this weekend. Attached File |

The Delaware River just warmed up enough for the shad bite to turn on. 4 yesterday, 10 so far today. Should really start nailing them next week.  Bi-State tournament is this weekend $20,000 prize to the heaviest American Shad. Current top place is a little over 5.5 pounds. |
