I dunno if I'd want to read some FMs on the beach. Lets face it, they don't write FMs for pleasure reading. Take some SHTF fiction and enjoy the sun and fun.....

I hear you, but I push paper for a living and rarely have time for casual reading. And what better way to spend Independence weekend then reading material that may ensure my family's independence?

I tell you what, if I promise to drink beer, fish with my toddler, admire female forms on the beach and bbq morning, noon and night...then will you suggest some material?

eta: I promise to blow things up too.

I was at Barnes and Noble tonight and asked about the Nook and how to get files on it for later viewing.. Turns out that it uses a file that converts PDF's, so any .doc you have can be pasted to a PDF and saved then ported over to the Nook. They hold 1500 books, run for 30 hours in Airport (turns off Wifi and bluetooth) mode, and has a nice, crisp screen that looks like paper. The battery is replaceable and costs $30.

I'd have bought one right then and there-the new model with more memory, Wifi, a browser, mp3 player etc. was $199.

What's the best place to order printed manuals?  I have a few that I've purchased at gunshows, but some of these I'd like to have in a nice hard copy bound form - ie: not self-printed.

You have some good ones. Everyone should check out the parent directories of those documents as well. There are a slew I downloaded from the parent directories that aren't listed in that post.

The following link is not a  PDF, but given the fact that often times after natural disasters we are faced with trying to reclaim personal papers and other family documents that have been damaged, I thought I'd include a link to how museums try to recover/ rehabilitate  their damaged collections:

There's a KIndle app you can download for the Ipod. I'm pretty sure it can read PDF files, but haven't tried any on mine yet.

I'll bump this one for a non-PDF download link.
GD currently has a PAW thread

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=1165879

In that thread there is a link to:

http://www.romanticallyapocalyptic.com/home

Which has a link to:

http://www.otr.net/?p=esca

Apparently the guy likes his old-timey PAW radio programs. There is stuff on there like The Earth Abides. Might make for some interesting entertainment, even if its not educational PDFs on how to do stuff.

The following aren't free audio books, from what I have seen:

http://www.graphicaudio.net/c-7-deathlands.aspx
http://www.graphicaudio.net/c-11-doomsday-warrior.aspx
http://www.graphicaudio.net/c-38-survivalist.aspx
http://www.graphicaudio.net/c-82-earth-blood.aspx
http://www.graphicaudio.net/c-15-outlanders.aspx

That being said, back to the PDF downloads

A survival text from Finland. Sorry, its not in English

Now for something different from anything we've had up til now. An Israeli Preparedness manual:

Sorry, I thought some people might like enjoy downloading some old radio programming that sorta goes along with what we like to read.
Is there no way to convert the format over once its downloaded? Its just a computer file after all, right?

After you wet my appetite for some old time radio, one of my my buddys turned me on to this web site... http://www.archive.org/details/oldtimeradio. This place holds a ton of archived audio, not only old time radio. This web site also is designed for downloading, as you don't have to "capture" the audio. The format is mp3, and some entire show collections are already served up in a zipped archived download file. The day I found this, along with FireFox and the DownloadThemAll plugin, I got about 48 GB of radio shows to keep and listen to at my leisure. HaHa. There are some audio books, too, but some of the speakers were kinda lame. Thanks for sparking my interest. This is cool.

Thanks for sharing that. Inevitably what someone thinks is only of interest to them turns out to be of use to others.

I think I've seen that site before and downloaded some old episodes of the old CBS Mystery Theatre; I'll have to check it out again

I have most of the stuff from the links I posted saved on my external.

I had suggested an idea a while back for guys like you whose internet connections aren't the best, but was shot down because folks didn't want to be publicly ID'd by the process. Basically I was willing to send around an external harddrive with everything I'd collected. People could download the files and add anything they had that wasn't there. The external would get scanned for bugs upon receipt. When you were done it would get passed on to the next guy who expressed an interest until the last guy sent it back to me.

I think that's a pretty cool idea. I'd be on board for that. I can give some one some cash in a pool to cover shipping.
