In November of 2024, I shot a collared coyote here in Ohio. OSU had collared several coyotes around the state to study their predation habits and mortality. I got a call from one of the researchers today wanting some final information as he is getting ready to publish his findings. He said out of 29 collared coyotes since Fall of 2024, 15 had died. 9 shot, 2 trapped, 2 hit by cars, 1 killed by other coyotes, and 1 of some disease or starvation. The others are still out there. I don't know if those numbers are representative of all coyotes in the state, or if the ones that are collared were dumb enough to get caught once, they were dumb enough to get caught again or shot. Pictures of the collared yote, and the other one with him. He is probably one of the biggest coyotes I have ever shot. He was 50+ lbs. Attached File Attached File |
Selling your guns to a buyback because you feel criminals have too many firearms, is like getting yourself castrated because you feel the neighbors have too many children.

The guy that called me said they don't have plans to collar any more. |

"Oh crap! I shot a dog" woulda' been my first thought. ![]() That's really neat. I doubt there's any like that down here. This happened to pop up the other day. It's a short graphic on tracked wolves tracing their territories. I wondered if similar for coyotes wouldn't show the same. ![]() Great illustration of wolf pack territoriality from our GPS collared wolves in 6 different packs in |

Here is the website describing the research. https://ohiocoyote.org/ There is a video of one they tracked from around Columbus to Cincinnati, then crossing the Ohio River into Kentucky, and then back to Ohio.. ![]() CALA003_animatedPoints |

| Interesting. That info could be helpful for better hunting them. The one in the video went what, over 110 miles, one way? Wow, I wouldn't have expected so far. |
