Due to a meticulously planned operation code named Sucker Punch the Chinese secretly retrofitted civilian passenger aircraft to drop 200 paratroopers each and then remote control the empty aircraft to kamikazi into preselected targets like control towers, fuel depots and critical infrastructure. At the same time your local kadre of Karen Komissars has been mobilized to sow division and confusion within your town. Scenario: your best friend sends you a 10 second video of paratroopers floating down and a few shooting in his direction. 5 miles from your position. “They’re attacking the grid, bridges, and hospitals!” As you play the video you hear sirens in the distance. You have 5 minutes to decide whether you hunker down or grab kit and rush to one of those known local targets to defend it against heavily armed Chinese paratroopers and a few angry Feminists and Zizian terrorists. What do you do? What do you grab. Do you know any fellow Americans worth calling to help? What’s your unit uniform? Hawaiian shirt? Orange or blue duct tape? Arriving at the hospital you find a single cop car and a deputy you recognize. How do you coordinate the ad hoc defense and how do you use expedient landscaping for your advantage? Every hospital has gravel/crushed rock planters in their parking lot and low shrubs. Most have flat roofs. |

The key to thinking about defense of static critical infrastructure is thinking about vulnerabilities and the importance of “concealment”. Ie. A hospital’s critical infrastructure starts with personnel and then goes to transformers, because without power…. So tarps, trash, etc to conceal transformers might be critical. |

Too much gear to move in that time limit. THIS is why you have a neighborhood based "Watch" on steroids. Everyone gets alerted. The ones that are home start blocking off the perimeter with the layers youve already planed (garbage cans full of water, spike strips, youve made with roofing nails on carpet strips, followed by vehicles. The older less mobile guys are breaking out their military collections of amnesty 1919s and BARs. The younger guys are manning pre planned LP/OPs. The tech guys are getting the drones ready for long range surveillance and more. The kids are on mag loading and humping sand bag details. Others are filling every container (bath tubs) with water. MREs are dug out of the tubs in the garage. Everyone stays in touch via radio. The Tech guys that arent busy with the drones are sending out long distance Maydays. The medical teams are assembling their aid station and response teams. Punji pits are dug and prepped. The Long Range guys already have Range Cards but now the kids will be placing wind flags in the neighborhood Once all that is set, the teens are sent to pick up all the grill propane tanks from the neighbors who laughed at your neighborhood watch. Those folks who were too worried about their lawn to participate are handed a M91/30 with 2 strippers of ammo. When they bring you an enemy ear they get a MRE and another stripper of ammo. Now that the Tech guys are set, its time to set up all the anti drone stuff theyve been scheeming about but couldnt do because of FAA regs. No uniforms, we know who we are, the enemy will be wearing the shoot me uniforms. |

In your scenario, you are starting from waaaaay behind the curve. Your only advantage is knowing the terrain and AO. Do you have comms(?) because the enemy does. Do you have air support(?) because the enemy does. Drones(?) because they do. NV/Thermal because they do. Beltfed weapons, grenades, AT weapons...they do and they wont be afraid to use them against you even if there are civilians around. In a Red Dawn scenario you need to be the flee taking small bites but you still need a TEAM. Start coordinating that now |

Organizing now (with feelers out with local civil leaders) is precisely what we should be doing… it’s a two way street: we need to trust the authorities and they need to trust us to avoid blue on green. But this requires time volunteering via Rotary, Elks, etc Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations so we become known citizens with a stake in our corner of civilization. After a 5th cocktail party and once you’re greeted by your first name is when you casually ask about contingency planning and mention your interest/training in humanitarian assistance/incident command. You’ll discover that panicked clueless citizens are the single biggest liability for the local government. They’ve got a list of “high priority” clients: elder care providers, disabled people, etc. they assume critical assets are inviolable and safe. The sad part is that the most heavily armed citizenry aren’t trained in defending their own power grid, hospitals and schools. |

Within my immediate friend and associate group I know half a dozen private pilots. Half a dozen HAMs. A dozen guys who use UAVs professionally for oil services, livestock, farming and realtor jobs… All of them are hunters and have AR15s. Some have armor and NV/Thermals. So if they were organized to defend a hospital, they’d have the basic tools needed to set up an RV encampment, set up repeaters, establish check points and comms, aerial surveillance and over watch. But they’re not thinking in those terms. We all eventually cobble together our kit that starts to approximate light infantrymen. We don’t have grenades or RPGs… but we do have FRTs, flamethrowers, and UAVs. We could fortify a static position pretty easily… and with some ingenuity even duct tape together a DD (assuming the local authorities were ok with it). The only thing lacking is organization and approval from local sheriff’s office. |

I don't see how you get the idea that authorities assume that critical infrastructure is magically " safe" without someone guarding it Securing critical infrastructure is a priority in emergency scenarios If you want to be of assistance to your community, get involved with whatever emergency preparedness entities your local governments are operating Its very unlikely that they'll be OK with armed regular citizens guarding power stations and hospitals. |

IDK your town but the LAST thing I would want to do is advertise my interest or team thoughts to a politician or Rotary type club. In peace time that sounds like a way to get yourself/team Id'd as radical nuts. In Red Dawn times Id expect them to cooperate with the enemy in the "interest" of maintaining on good terms with the invaders. Like I said its surely a location thing but nowhere have I lived/worked that I would expect any "Civic Leaders" to be trustworthy in an insurgent war Given your motivation, youd probably be better seeking employment with the local or state police, at least then youd have a cadre of "trained" guys and perhaps some intel. If that doesnt work then perhaps the Natl Guard |

See, man, you’re just trying too hard. |
ProTip: Never pick a fight with a tree planter. He swings a hoedad for 9 hours a day, carries 30-40 pounds of seedlings on his back, and has 12-14 friends just like him hiding out on the other side of the junk butt pile. They will fuck your shit up.
