If you go with Uniquefire 2002D you can change LEDs if you ever get DNV. They have green, red, 850nm and 940nm Amazon link Works well with this QD mount: Amazon Link |

I may give this a nod if I don’t go with the scope. I've heard that the light isn't the best of options. So is thermal the better option over NV? |

| Keep in mind that a dedicated green LED will greatly outperform a white LED with a green filter all else being equal. Can't speak much about thermals, but I'm holding off on them until I decide to spend the $$ on a decent sensor. The 384 resolution sensor didn't impress me much at all. Thermals are also getting cheaper and in just a year or 2 I bet better sensors will be available for much cheaper. |

I started hunting hogs shooting in the daytime or at night with a white spot light driving around in a truck. It works but they are running the moment the light hits them. Probably even before that but we never saw them. Still had a great time and got hooked. Then I went to digital night vision 11 years ago, the original ATN X-Sight. Still have it, it still works for killing hogs. an upgraded IR light helps. About 4 years ago I got a thermal. Three years ago I got a suppressor. Thermal and suppressed is the way to go. So the big difference between digital NV and thermal is that DNV needs an IR light source. Any brush, grass, or trees between you and the target splash back the IR light and wash out everything behind it. So DNV works great in open cut fields, but terrible in the thick stuff. Thermal picks up the heat of the target, so a hot pig behind some brush you still see the heat coming through the brush. Thermal is way better in the thick stuff. Suppressors add another dimension to hog killing. Without a suppressor, when the first shot is fired the whole group of hogs runs directly away from the shooter. With a suppressor, because the bullet has a supersonic crack, the hogs scatter in all directions. I've had hogs run for a wood line, I missed, but the bullets hit the trees in the wood line, which the hogs heard and turned around and ran right back at me. Killed 5 when without the suppressor I would have gotten 1 or 2. |

I have a friend who is "of considerable means" and is very much a "buy once, cry once" guy. Things have changed a little, and his thermal is otherwise occupied and unavailable. I am borrowing his 6.5 Grendel pig gun with Bering Optics D-750 NV scope instead. |

Regardless of what's possible, whats available on the market is what drives the decision. I can get a white light that is orders of magnitude more poweful than the available red and green. Of course the trick then is to find a filter that fits. Personally i bought into the green trend for a minute and went back to red. I have a couple green streamlights that are no longer produced. Nitecore has offered the CU6 in a variety of colors but i believe the only one you can currently buy is the UV model. I have the UV and Red. I don't think the market has too much interest in this. I know i would like a few more handhelds in Red. But much of the focus is in headlamps. My recommendation, would be Nitecore P30i kit |
