| Apparently our tank split open..6 gl gas/elec...RV repair place wants $859.00 for the tank and 800 to put it in. I've found tanks that cost $385 online..anyone replaced one? YouTube shows it looks pretty straight forward..2 water line, gas line..an about 5 wires. |

I replaced my Attwood tank heater (tank was left with water in it and split pretty good) with an on demand this spring. Had I been able to buy a new exact replacement I probably would have but the dimensions I needed were not available from a new different name brand unit so I went with a no name on demand from Amazon that had dimensions I could work with. Attwood went out of business a few years ago so I couldn't get a replacement tank or new unit that was an exact fit swap. The on-gas demand works amazing for showers and such but does need some water flow to kick it on. With the on demand, I have found its best to just set the temp at what you want your shower to be and just open the hot all the way. I set it at 100. Tring to mix with minimal water flow can become a challenge so if I want hot water, it's just hot on all the way and I have 100-degree water. I have a little display control panel on the wall near the heater that I can adjust the temp. It only needed a 12V power source so with a multi meter I figured out which wire (from the factory wiring dual power unit wiring harness) provide me with constant and sufficient voltage from the factory wiring allowing the "propane hot water" switch on the factory control panel to power the gas on demand unit on and off. It wasn't hard but took me a few hours to get it swapped out. Had to do a little framing, and I was able to use part of the old door to fill in in a space gap instead of buying some type of expensive kit. Not perfect but fine for me and cost effective. A little info for people from my testing is: Max temps is 130 on the setting display. My testing with anywhere from 45-65* water inlet temp is 128-129. Flow rate is about 1.5GPH @ 85* rise. 2-3GPH is about 70-75* rise. They have been pretty dependable thus far. Keep in mind you will need to plumb the condensate lines out of the compartment. |
