I was checking spots this morning & saw they were still on the water. Nasty thunderstorms on & off here for last few days so all my stuff is disconnected. Franz Joseph Land is #44 on the DXCC most wanted list. |

[UPDATE @ 1100Z] – In a new video sent to DX-World, Vasily R7AL mentions all is good and they will try to attempt a landing on the island approximately 1200z today. This depends on whether the channel is full of ice or not. Play the video for latest news. Damn, no wonder I had trouble copying them. I had my dipole turned to 85 degrees and it turns out they are 8 degrees from my QTH. They're directly off the end of my wire.

Here's a question: When I electronically log the country associated with RI1FJL as it comes out of the WSJT-X FT8 software, it comes through as Russia (or maybe European Russia). In my logbook software, I change it to Franz Josef Land then forward it on to QRZ, Club Log, and LotW. Should I be doing that? |

It's a separate DXCC entity, so log it as Franz Josef Land not Russia and you will get proper credit. Attached File I hope they switch to CW or SSB so I can grab a few more. |

Usually I struggle making one contact during the first 24 hours of most DXpeditions, but I think managed to get lucky yesterday. I've been listening for them on 17m and 20m CW this afternoon, but sadly no joy even hearing them. |

You guys are rockin it!  I haven't had a chance to try them yet. Busy with family stuff. Hoping to get some time this evening but prop looks kinda crappy right now. Like to log a few CW QSO's with them

I just worked them on 21.095. Hope it wasn't a pirate, as I gave them a +15 -- they were as high as +24! That's easily SSB territory. I also got them on 17M CW a half hour ago. |

I've been listening most of the afternoon on 20m CW, but no joy there making contact. The lids, kids, and space cadets were out in force.  I've yet to see a spot for SSB, but I am hopeful they will eventually try that mode. Fingers crossed for the rest of you wanting to work them.

| Congrats, Bob! I did too at 21:43 UTC. Before that, there was an absolute shitload of DQRM. It actually sounded like someone was rotating their antenna, as the interference would fade in and out on a regular pattern. Probably some Ukranian. Lol! |

Attached File Somehow I managed to make a contact late last night on 40m FT8. Still no joy on SSB, but I think now I will focus on making some more CW contacts. I also heard them well on 30m CW last night, but just couldn't break the pileup. |
