We currently have 2 500 gallon above ground LP tanks. Both are self owned. Tank A came with the house. Tank B was added shortly after installing the standby generator. Both are plumbed to a common line that feeds furnace, gas logs & generator. The vapor line connecting the tanks dips down to below grade between the two to avoid potential damage from falling limb or running deer. The original delivery line goes underground from the far side of Tank A side to the house. Both tanks are on a slope, sitting level across the slope, with Tank B being 8-12 inches lower than Tank A. Tank B is white, Tank A is silver. Tank A is more shaded than Tank B.  What I have been seeing is that propane is migrating from Tank A to Tank B. At the moment, Tank B reads 85 -90% (hard to tell for sure with the temperature adjustment scale) while Tank A reads 45%. At the last fill both were at 80%. Anyone know the mechanism at play? I'm wondering if I need to worry about an "overfull" situation that might trip the pressure relief on Tank B. I'm considering shutting off the delivery valve on Tank A after it's next fill & only opening it after Tank B gets drawn down. It would get closed again if needed to keep the tanks more in balance. Thoughts or suggestions? |

When I first noticed this, soon after install, I brought it up with the seller/installer/LP supplier (Southern states farm coop). They did not see why I was concerned & did not seem to think any thing needed changing, but also could not describe what was going on. Did not leave me feeling reassured at the time. |
