This is the first fox I have ever called in and my second fox I have killed. This was my very first time using a predator call and I had this guy run right to me and a friend. Both got a shot and both hit. I got the kill shot with 4 pellets to the head. He got a body shot   This is the first fox I have ever shot. She ran right to us while squirrel hunting. Just like the fox above we both got a shot at her. I got the body shot and he got 2 pellets into her head.  This is the skull from the above fox. Pelt was no good she had mange.

lokltrkr, I NEVER thought I'd tell a man this, but: NICE BEAVER! Our beaver season doesn't open til the 15th. I got permission for the new place I'm doing good on foxes on BECAUSE they wanted someone to get after the beavers. |

No I don't.Usually don't catch too many skunks, but this has been a good (or is it bad?) year! I was talking to a guy the other evening who does. He also removes ALL the glands from his foxes as well (even interdigital,etc!) Will swing by and check it out when I get a chance. |

Do you remove the essence before you skin? Or after? I've also heard of folks simply cutting out scent glands. For that money, it'll be worth my time, plus I hate to waste ANYTHING (have sold a few skulls,claws,coonbones,etc  )Heck, who knows, I may even target stinkers! |

After making my initial cuts (ankles to rump) and starting the hide off,I've always cut the tail bone off right at the base, before peeling them, leaving the bone in. Then, I have the pelt free, with the bone still in the tail. Then I simply loop the thick base of the tail in the gambrel loop,and strip off the tail. Sounds strange but took longer to type it then it does to do it.Literally only a few seconds. I've never had an accidental discharge this way. (having said that, I'm SURE the next one will get me) |

Thanks! It was a live trap, obviously very easy to use for a first timer. It was hidden a little better before he got caught and threw a fit  A friend of mine has trapped bobcats like that before, so I figured it was good for coons. Now that I've got my first taste, I want to try different kinds of sets.

Hhmmm.. now that I found this thread I'll have to make sure I take some pics this upcoming season. These are the only two trapping pics I've got saved (I think): If you look close you can see the 'coon down in there. If I remember correctly, this was my first experiment using a drag instead of staking.  I'll try and remember to take some pics this season. Just never thought about it much before I guess. Didn't really think anyone wanted to see pics of my dead (or soon to be) critters.

Just a question, and don't flame me for this
we don't have beavers here in central oregon that cause problems at least, so whats the point in killing a beaver ? what does it do to make it a pest ? also a Lynx i thought they were very rare? so just curious as well, i'm not trying to be PETA by any means just curious. |
